I never heard that you couldn't, but I wouldn't to any funeral, personally. I would wear a more subdued, darker color.

We usually stick to black at Jewish Funerals.

i've never heard of a jewish funeral being different than any other funeral in terms of what to wear... i would wear black or dark colors.

i am wondering if maybe you heard incorrectly... it is customary for mourners to "rend" or tear their clothing, but that generally only applies to the family.
there is also a red string/ribbon that some jewish people wear but i don't think it has anything to do with funerals... you can FM Goldi0218 for more info, i know she mentioned something to me yesterday.

wear dark colors, white and bright would be inappropriate for any funeral no matter which religion.
the immediate family rips a black cloth that represents the tearing of clothing to show they are in mourning (rending).
the red string is a kabbalistic/mystical thing. it has nothing to do w/ funerals. it is supposed to protect its wearer.

Re: can you wear red at a Jewish funeral?
The rabbi who performed the ceremony for my mother's funeral is a very conservative rabbi. He told us that we do not have to wear black. We can wear colors if we wanted to. Personally, I would never wear red or white, but that is by choice.
As for the red ribbon I wear everyday, my MIL gave it to me to ward off the "evil eye" as a sense of protection. It doesn't do me any harm so I wear it discreetly.
The black ribbon I wore for 7 days on the outside of my clothing during shiva and I continue to wear it on the inside of my clothing until sloshim or the 30 day mourning period that follows the passing of a parent, sibling or spouse. Children wear it on the left side. Spouses on the right.
