Cancer - can't anyone catch a break?
This is more of a vent.. I can't take hearing one more person I know getting diagnosed.
My best friend with breast cancer - recovering & pretty much cured only to go back and worry every 6 months during a screening.
Mom's friend's son in law - liver cancer - days left. Father of 3 boys.
Dad's friend's wife - just died breast cancer..
Friend - Mom @ daycare - liver cancer, breast cancer & tumor in spine... She has a 1 year old & a 5 year old. Did the breast cancer walk last weekend, got a double masectomy on monday.
and the last one really kills me...
12 year old boy. Up the street from my parents -my nephew's good friend. Hospitlized at Sloan, rare form of leukemia.
How many more people do we need to get this? When the h*** are they going to figure out a cure for this... since I came back cleared from lymphoma it seems that everyone I know is getting this. Sorry for the post - I just don't think one more family should have to suffer like this...

I know exactly how you are feeling. my uncle (mothers sisters hubby) has been battling stage 4 cancer since january, liver, lungs and prostate. has since stopped all treatment because it has not been responding.
found out 2 nights ago that my fathers younger and only brother has cancer in his bones AND its in his blood. starting radiation and chemo.
my family is devestated.

Sadly I know how you feel, my father has brain cancer. It has taken him from a vibrant active man to someone who can't even feed himself. It is an evil disease!

Re: Cancer - can't anyone catch a break?
Hubby's dad is in remission from Prostate cancer.
The office building I work in, the first floor has a doctor's office for cancer patients and it is extremely sad to see so many people coming in and out of that office. Their is one man who is there every Wednesday at 11:30am (I go on my break at noon so I always see him) and he is the sweetest man I have ever met. He sits outside in the lobby with his little doggie and is just so full of life. His wife of almost 50 years is battling cancer and they are there every week for her treatment. It breaks my heart for that man and his wife. In the 15 minutes that I talk with him each week I feel like I have known him my whole life. This past Wednesday I didnt see him. I hope all is alright
It truely is an evil disease

Re: Cancer - can't anyone catch a break?
Devastating is the only word I can come up with...absolutely devastating to everyone that gets it, to every family or friend of that person.
In my experience, even those that are survivors never feel cured.

Re: Cancer - can't anyone catch a break?
I had cancer about 12 years ago and I think last year was the FIRST year I did not go for a follow up....just can't go into the hospital anymore to see the doctor. I will go again in January though. I did the chemo and radiation--it's not easy.

Re: Cancer - can't anyone catch a break?
CANCER touches home to everyone. My MIL died last week from a year long battle with lung cancer. My uncle die of Pancreatic cancer 2 years ago he fought for 9 months. ANd my mom had breast cancer then was in remission for 8 years then had liver and colon cancer and died 9 months later. that was 10 years ago.
My prayers are with you and your family. Someone stop the madness!!! I am making an effort on sunday by doing the breast cancer walk.

Re: Cancer - can't anyone catch a break?
My mom and I were just talkng about this last week...I can't believe how many people this horrible disease effects..
My MIL died from breast, liver and kidney cancer after a 3 year battle 01/2005
My grandfather is fighting prostate, and recently had his kidney removed after they found 4 spots on it.
My aunt- breast cancer survivor.
My co-worker- breast cancer survivor
Co-workers daughter-had breast cancer- was in remission for 3 months. Was recently diagnosed again- they found spots on her liver, and lesions on her hips. She has a 3 year old.
Another co-worker- was in remission for 10 years- was recently disgnosed with ovarian cancer.
Friends husband died 05/05 from a 10 year battle.
Will this disease never stop? It just seems to be happening all at once lately.

Re: Cancer - can't anyone catch a break?
I can't even bring myself to say the word cancer anymore.
My Aunt has had breast cancer three times, now lung cancer.
And I can't even bring myself to mention the countless others I've seen affected. It is my worst fear - who close to me will suffer next ?
