Cape Cod? Providence, RI? repost from PG. Looking for long wknd in April
Looking to take a long weekend babymoon in April, at the end of the school April break (DH is a teacher), so we're trying to avoid really kid-focused areas.
Qualifications: -needs to be within comfortable driving distance -would prefer someplace NEW to both of us (which is pretty much most of new england...we usually go south) -relaxing -pretty -things to see and do (don't want to just sit around in a lodge all weekend)
and that's about it!
We originally wanted to go to Wash DC, but due to the placenta previa, I'm not supposed to be walking excessively... and we're museum people, so we'd cram as much as we could fit into 3 days in DC and we'd definitely be walking a LOT! Sooo I guess Wash DC can wait.
From doing my own internet research, I think either Cape Cod or Providence would work nicely. Neither of us have ever been there, so we have no idea what to expect.
Any pros/cons? Suggestions on hotels/things to do/helpful tips, etc?
Thanks!!!
eta: I'm considering Crowne Pointe Historic Inn & Spa in Cape Cod - good rates, looks nice. Any feedback? Thanks.

I'd recommend Mystic, CT or Newport, RI. They is a lot to do in both areas for a long weekends.
Mystic - lots of museums, aquarium & shopping.
Newport - MANSIONS, cliff walk, downtown at the harbor, shopping, eating at great restaurants.

Hi,
Honestly, Providence is not that exciting. Newport is a nicer part of RI than PRovidence is..and there is not that much to do here...in the summer, there is Waterfires, but not much going on right now...
I would go for Cape Cod..you will like it much better, and honestly, Providence is not that far from the Cape,if you want to spend 1 day in Providence just to see...

I really liked Newport. It's very cute and great for a weekend.
In the fall went went to Manchester, VT and really enjoyed it - we stayed at The Equinox Resort. It was about 3.5-4 hours away.

ITA... I went to school in Providence RI. Really not too much to do that's fun and touristy kind of stuff. Cape Cod or Newport would be nice. We went to Newport and did a boating tour, stayed at a B&B, lots of shopping and places to eat.

I love Newport. Mystic is nice too, but I preferred Newport.
I don't see how Cape Cod could be a bad thing though. I would go.
what about Martha's Vineyard? Nantucket? maybe they rent bikes with a sidecar and Rich can drive you around! it could be ALMOST as fun as a hamper
or how about Maine?
I am thinking of going to Maine in July. I have a yearning for a real deal lobster roll.
I will say that part of the "charm" of New England towns is their walkability. of course, you can drive to everything (say, all of the mansions in Newport) but when you tour them, you will do some walking.
I don't know how much (or little) you are allowed to walk a day (or a spell) with your placenta previa (uh, what is that exactly?) but it's something to consider if you put the cabbash on D.C. b/c of it.

we did newprt RI a few years back in April and we had such a nice time.
we stayed at the Hyatt its on goat island, its beautiful. you can walk into the town area there are shops and a great restuarant called the Red Parrot - they have a binder for their menu - so cool!
you can go visit the mansions and do some tours. there is also the cliff walk, which is just a path along the cliff of the water its very pretty. in april it wasnt as beauiful as it could be because all the flowers arent in bloom yet and it was a little chilly, but still so nice! we went for 3 days 2 nights and it was just enough. it was also i believe ither 2 1/2 hors or 3 1/2 hours i cant remember exactly
it was one of our fav trips, very relaxing
hyatt
cliff walk
Mansions
Red Parrot
also cape may NJ is very pretty too there is beach area and shops and restuarants. there was a cute hotel we stayed at.. i think it started with a C but cant remember the name.
