cape owners, when u expanded your home..

did u expand your basement? i don't know if u can even do that without costing a fortune. we saw a cape and it's really small. the property is big enough to expand later on but i was wondering about the basement.

anyone had this done before? TIA

my cape was built in 42 and was expanded in 52 - they also expanded the basement but that was 1952.

our old house ( a cape) was not expanded but if we bumped out the kitchen we would not have touched the basement

When our kitchen was added on a crawl space was built. We use that to store stuff which creates more room in our existing basement.

DH's aunt is in a Levit cape - no original basement. They expanded back (they have a bigger odd shaped lot) and the back bedroom and LR are raised about 2-3 feet with a basement below (I guess that way they didn't have to dig as much? not really sur e- but it's an option

i dont know about expanding a basement. but our house had room added on the house in the 70s and they didnt expand the basement.

but capes are known for being great to expand upon. dormers and extenstions.

when we expanded our cape, they expanded the basement, they said since they were doing a crawlspace so all they had to do was dig a few more feet to make the basement.

We are very happy we did it because our basement is very large with lots of rooms and a full bathroom
