car inurance recommendations

Who does everyone use for car insurance?
DH wants me to shop around to see if we can do better than the 5000/year we are paying now for two cars!
We have Travelers at the moment.
Any suggestions?
TIA

I looooove Geico. They give good rates and good drivers discounts, etc.

I had an accident a year ago (not my fault) My ins never went up and they handled everything for me wonderfully. I would HIGHLY recommend them

ETA - DH had state farm and just switched to Geico. Its saving us $

Re: car inurance recommendations

We have All State. We keep looking for better rates but they are still the cheapest.

We have no records, no tickets, no accidents.

A lot of place are good for such drivers. Nobody has been able to beat AllState so far. Progressive, Geico, etc...

Re: car inurance recommendations

we switched about a year ago to Geico from Allstate and I'm very happy with Geico. I found the customer service to be much better then Allstate, and when they renew every 6 months like Allstate did, the rates don't increase. Allstates rates always went through the roof. we saved 1200 in a 6 month period by switching to Geico.

I recently had someone hit my car and take off and Geico was so easy to deal with!!

Re: car inurance recommendations

We switched to Geico from Allstate as well and we saved about $900/year for the same coverage. Allstate couldn't beat that.

Re: car inurance recommendations

my parents have had state farm for 40+ years, so i took it too. DH had allstate before we got married and switching to state farm saved him over $1000 this first year alone - and then we also get a multi-car and multi-line discount because we have a renters pol through them as well.

I say it all the time - I love the company, and it's not just because I work for them!

I'm sure it's the same in any company - the longer you're with them and accident free/a good driver/billpayer, the larger your discount will be.

We have the reversed. DH just quoted them last month and Geico wanted almost $1000 more than what AllState is charging us.

As far as Geico customer service. I had them years ago. Unless they changed. They were horrible!

I think rates vary a lot from one person to another.

Depends on your driving record, credit report, etc....

You just have to get quotes yourself to see what works for you.

I heard Geico customer serivce was horribe to, and that they take forever to pay out on claims, but I figured with the savings I was getting, it would be worth it. But in the end they were awesome!! I could not believe how helpful and nice they were. they also issued a check right away! So I think they took note and improved in that area now.

We have State Farm and love it....they gave me the best rates for our car and best deal for our renter's (with full coverage policies on both). I used to have Progressive on a previous car, they were ridiculously expensive and when my car got stolen they put me through the ringer and took FOREVER to send me my reimbursement.

Try Esurance. They have been great and instead of going up it keeps going down everytime it renews! We have tried Allstate & Geico and nobody comes close to them.

Re: car inurance recommendations

Amica. They are across the country and the cost is less then we had with Allstate. Not sure what we pay now since its changed over the past year and DH does that bill.

I got rear ended and they had someone out to look at the car the next day and had cut my check for damages within 3 days. They also insisted that stock parts be put on my car when it was fixed since the car was under 7k miles and they did it.

This is also a great point. I know MOST companies use refurbished parts when coming up with a dollar amount to reimburse you in the event of an accident.

State Farm ONLY USES NEW PARTS.

My parked, unoccupied car was hit on the street when I was in high school and the guy that hit it had Geico. Geico wanted to repair the car with all used parts (as they always do...) - my Daddy said NO WAY. State Farm got involved for us and got Geico to price out the damages with new parts only.

Re: car inurance recommendations

I have Liberty Mutual and thought they were so expensive so I just shopped around last week and found out I have a great deal. apparently they are like the only company that gives annual insurance policies and not just 6 months. I did check out geico, state farm, traveleres, progressive and they were all significantly more expensive. The only place cheaper by 200 a year was Allstate so I might swith to them. I am in NJ.

that weird b/c when geico came out to look at my car, they asked for the estimate that my body shop had written up (which included only new HONDA parts) and they gave us a check for the amount. It actually worked out to be an excellent deal b/c the shop wrote the estimate higher to cover half my deductible!

I've had Geico for a long time. at 7 years they cut our rates 30% for being loyal customers...every 6 months it goes down and down and down...I still can't believe what we pay for 2 cars (1 being classified a sports car)

oh one more thing i though of, some companies run your credit, so I think that also effects the rate you get.
