Car parked on property line
my backyard borders the street behind me. There is a gate in the back, so that we can actually park our car on that street and come into our backyard. It is a chain link fence so I can actually see the road and the cars parked alongside it.
For the past 3-4 weeks there has been a car parked there. At one point it left and came back a day later. It never seems to move otherwise.
There was a cop in the neighborhood who ran the plates for me, but it came back with a NYC address, so there's no way of telling whose car it is.
It is somewhat in the way because the way they are parked, I can't park my car there if I need to. My landscaper had a problem when he was trying to take down trees in our backyard, because they were blocking the part of the fence that they usually remove to get big things in and out.
What can I do? If I leave a note on the car, what do I say?

Is the car parked on the street?
I think if the car in on the street there really is nothing you can do.
If it is parked legally, it has just as much of a right to be parked there as your car.
Does you fence open in toward the yard or out toward the street?
If it opens out, maybe changing the fence to open in would allow your landscaper to have access.

Re: Car parked on property line
I would check with the town/police. There may be some ordinance against parking in the street for extended periods of time...

Re: Car parked on property line
is there enough room for them to still park there without blocking your gate?
I agree that if it's a public street you can't stop them from parking there altogether, but maybe you could leave a note nicely asking them to park forward or back a few more feet to just not block your gate access..

Re: Car parked on property line
I would leave a note on the car explaining that even though it looks like your backyard, it is fact your driveway. I would explain where it begins and ends (maybe its indicated by the break in the curb) and to please not block the driveway or you will be forced to contact the local police to have it towed (they can do this but you can threaten. I know they can't even tow it in nassau if its blocking your entire driveway)
you can maybe even put little stakes and some rope across the part that is your driveway so that they see that. I have seen this done in areas where a lot of people park on the road
