Car seat inspections...can you just randomly go to a police station?
These stinkin' hours they have are impossible to get to.
Is it even possible to go to a random police station? TIA

I know in NYC, you can't. You need an appt with the officer who handles that. Not sure how it works in NJ where you are.

Thanks Gabi...I'd make an appointment, I just wondered if you could only go to those 'designated' times they have in NJ. There's literally 2 places that are within driving distance, but they only have very limited hours. Hoping my local police station will take an appointment.

I hope you get a convenient appt! Even though DH and I are in law enforcement, we could totally use a safety check of Reilly's carseat in DH's minivan. It's such a poor seat configuration.
Btw- also check BabiesRUs. I know here in LI, they are having a carseat safety check on Feb. 23rd. I am sure they do something similar in NJ.

Tara - The guy in BRU who we spoke to about the car seats said you can, and you can also go to a local fire department. Honestly, I don't know how true that is.
Wednesday is the only day in this area that does inspections/installations in Livingston, but the line is always SO long (they don't take appointments) and even though that's one of my days off, I can't take Samantha with me and expect her to sit in the car with me for 2 hours.

There is a place on LI (West Babylon) that you can just go in anytime between 9 am and 5 pm Mon- Fri. That is what we did.

Our police and fire depts. do not inspect car seats at all--the guy at BRU was wrong, or maybe he meant it as a generality. But you can call ahead, or see if a hospital near you does this.

Not all police/fire departments have a CPST on staff. Even if they are willing to inspect your seat they shouldn't unless they are certified to do so.
If on LI you can call Chris (CarSeatSafety), a CPST from this board (Nassau) 516-571-5033 and try to arrange a check or Hassell Auto Body on Rte 109 in West Babylon M-F 9-5.
If you're not on LI you can check http://www.seatcheck.org/

or see if Car-seat.org has a tech near you
