Car seats--when did you buy the one after the infant car seat
I'm confused...
So my daughter is 17lbs now so she has time, but when do I buy the next car seat? Also, what do I buy--a convertible car seat? Or is it just called a car seat for the 1yr + and 25lbs group?
Right now we have a Graco snugride 32

You buy a convertible seat. Most can actually be used from birth (5lbs+).
We got the one for our car when DS was 8 months old, but we didn't use it until DS was 10 months old. We got our second, the comfortsport when DS was 11 months old and started using them then, rear facing
DS was 20lbs at one year, so we turned him forward facing then. The AAP recommends 2 years now though.

DS is 8 1/2 months old and we have been using the convertible car seat for over a month now. He was too long for the infant seat and we felt it was better to put him in the convertible seat.

I should add that we used the snugride, so the weight limit was only 22lbs (I think)
DS would still fit in a snugride 32, he is only 30lbs at almost 3

2 weeks ago! DD will be 13 months on Tuesday. Just had it installed a couple of days ago.
I don't know about NY, but here in NJ, they will not install the car seat forward facing at 1 year old. They gave me a REALLY hard time about it. But did tell me that when I go back in July to have the infant seat for DC#2 installed, they will not give me a hard time about turning her forward facing as she'll be at a higher weight and will be just about 18 months old.
