cat behavior question
i have two cats... (almost 2 years old) one cat constantly moves the water bowl in the kitchen and creates a mess.. some weeks only once or twice... others.. every ten minutes.. (like today!)... i have tried tons of diff. bowls... and its the same thing he always finds a way to move it.. i say "no" "bad" (both words he knows) and he will hide and watch me clean it up every single time.. he gets a kick out of it... now how on earth do i stop this behavior?
*they have a water bowl in another room that he doesn't move at all.. he drinks from it all the time.. but kitchens free for all for him

Re: cat behavior question
One of my cats love to do this too. Actually two of them do, but one more than the other. We put a mat under the bowl, it seems to help with the mess. You can try putting some coins in a can and shaking it when he starts playing with the water. I just let it be, I think its kind of funny.

Re: cat behavior question
What if you got a bowl that comes in a stand? I know they make them for dogs, maybe they make them lower enough for cats?

Re: cat behavior question
I would try to correct him/her while doing the deed.
One of my three starts to jump at the sides of our bedroom mirror. He likes to shove it. I hate the sound it makes (lots of noise) and afraid he’ll damage the paint so I got myself two water guns (super soakers) so I could reach him from bed as he always does this at 5am.
He quickly learned two things, what a water gun was and to stop with the stupid shoving of the mirror.
I learned something too, he is smarter than me. He now scratches at the pantry where is food is to annoy me. Which is in the kitchen and I can’t reach.
Oh well can’t win them all.
I agree with PP find a standing bowl and put it in a corner maybe?

Re: cat behavior question
As I was reading that, I could hear my cat moving his water bowl in the kitchen!
I've tried different things..but none of them work. We currently have a bowl with a lip around the inside of it, so when he moves it, the water catches and doesn't splash out as much.
I think we're used to it now...

Re: cat behavior question
my cat plays with his water bowl also and it drive me crazy.
I got a tray with sides on it....and I pout a paper towel underneath the bowl, that way he can play with the bowl and if it spills, it stays in the tray and not on my floor!!
