Catering Question

We are having about 40 people over for my daughters 1st birthday next month. I really do not want to BBQ because then someone will have to stand at the bbq all day and that is no fun. I was thinking about having the party catered. I have never catered a party (always cooked) so I have no idea how much this might cost me. Can you guys give me a ball park figure on what it might cost. I am thinking of getting a bunch of trays and some side dishes. Nothing fancy just good food.

If anyone has ever catered a party for 40 people I would really appreciate your insight.

Thanks

Re: Catering Question

My SIL is having a catered BBQ by Kitchen Kabaret for her bridal shower this weekend-- and I think it's $27pp-- there will be buffet food-- and people cooking at the grills.

Re: Catering Question

I am not sure of the details, but my brother works for a pork store that does this on the side, they bring the BBQ and the food, he also works with a woman that supplies and the bartenders. Let me know if you are interested and I will contact him to get details.

Re: Catering Question

27.00 a person, yikes!!! That would be over 1000.00 just for the food. Is this the average price? If so, I am just going to cook. I was hoping to cater it for around 200-300 dollars. I guess I was way off base on the cost of catering.

It does not have to be a BBQ. I would not have a problem just having trays of chicken marsala or sausage and peppers. I just don't want to BBQ ourselves because I will get stuck at the grill all day instead of enjoying my daughters party.

Any information is appreciated.

Re: Catering Question

I am having a housewarming next month and do not want to BBQ or cook either.. lol.. so I am getting some things catered.. I am going to try Valley Caterers in Franklin Square, I heard they offer pretty good food, maybe try them, it seemed reasonable and they have a good selection of different dishes.. Hope this helps.

Re: Catering Question

I had a small catered party for about 14 people and the hot food alone cost me $150 not to mention the salads and bread...$200-$300 for 40 is way too little.

maybe check out your local Italian place- you could probably get some trays of food their-and buy the sternos at the party supply store or something?

Re: Catering Question

how about just doing a few heros, some potato and macaroni salad and like you said, sausage and peppers or baked ziti or something. You can make the sausage and peppers ahead of time as well as the ziti and all you have to buy are the heros (and salads, if you want). Inexpensive and very easy!

Re: Catering Question

My SIL actually hired just one guy to work the grill for her husbands birthday BBQ party-it was great! She paid this guy a flat fee (maybe $200??) and she provided all the food-he cooked up whatever she had. He even brought his own equipment for the grill and cleaned up. It was well worth it to her and no hassle of having a family member do it.

If you want any information, let me know! I'll ask her how she found him-it was through a reputable service.

Re: Catering Question

Not sure where you live, but for my DH's 30th bday I catered it from Division Ave Caterers (a local deli/caterer). The food was fantastic, we did a few hot trays, a tray of wings (from else where) and some hero. And it was for 60 people and under $500.

I am thinking I may go this route or just s*ck it up and spend the day in front of the grill. I really do not want to spend 400+ on food for a 1st birthday party. It is funny how when you are not familiar with something your expectations can be way off.

That is why I asked you guys. Thanks for the info.

That is a great price!

Re: Catering Question

I ordered food for 40 people from The Great American in nesconset for I *think* 250-300. We picked it up and it was plenty of food. You get 2 hot trays, 2 cold trays plus sides and a 6 ft hero! I would check out deli's Thats probably where you would get the best deals.
