cats and pregnancy?
I posted this in liw under parenting but noone even looks there.. i figured you ladies would have more insight (in hindsight should have just asked you!)
We are having a get together for a mutual friend at our house one of our dear friends is preggers and her due date is 1 week from the party.. I have heard being aroudn cats is dangerous? Im not sure of the legitness of this statement. I want to check wtih you ladies. (sorry if this is a horribly stupid questions) Is there any precautions I shoudl take for our friend? Party will be outside but we will set up a cooling place for our mommy to be...... we have two kittens (5 months old) should we throughly clean the living room aka cooling center and keep the kittens in another room?
I just want to be a helpful friend sorry if this is an odd question... i just have never had a pregnant friend before!

being around cats is PERFECTLY fine...just DO NOT change the litter box

Just don't have her change your litter
You have to worry about toxoplasmosis in cat poop. It can case vision problems and mental retardation. If she has only one week to go the baby is already formed also.

Being around cats is fine. I think it's only dangerous to be around street cats and cats that never had their shots.
She will be fine! It's very nice of you to think of such things for your friend

Oh wow! thanks for the info.. thats really interesting ... something I would never have thought of...
I will ensure its all clean and vacuumed up first (its an enclosed box too )... and not change it while she's at the party...

I think im almost as excited for her baby boy to come as her & her family! Its my first "little baby" in the group of friends... and he's under 3 weeks away!!!

Being around cats is fine. I have a cat. As long as they are immunized and she doesnt change the litter box, its fine!
