I would not send kids to CI...Parts of Islandia border better parts, but if it fell in that district I would send to private school. It is similar in test scores/grad rates to Brentwood, William Floyd...I'm not bashing, because I know students can be successful in any district, but I do believe the Bloods and Crypts are a large presence in CI from what I have heard from administrators.

Yes, it is. Sachem is a neighboring district and there are some affordable homes there!

It is not a good SD. I live in Islandia(N of 454 and my neighborhood is mostly beautiful. Wide tree lined streets with sidewalks. Big properties. very convenient location Neighbors keep to themselves-have lived here almost 4 yrs and no vandalism or robbery of any kind. Funny because I've been robbed growing up inCommack and living in an apt in ronkonkoma. We do not have kids so this is a starter house for us. We figured we have 5 maybe 6 years before we would have to worry about it. From comps in teh area our home has increased in value about 100K The poeple that lived here before sent their kids to private school.
