cerclage question
i had suffered a loss last year at 22.5 weeks (water broke) never being diagnosed w/ an incompitent cervix.(cervix never shortened or opened) we never really knew why. well now i am just about 15wks prego and my high risk dr wants to do a cerclage and my ob does not think i need one. i am so confused and scared allready everyday of this pregnancy. so my question is does anyone know of anyone having a cercalge but not having an incompitant cervix?? if so how did they do?? thanks ladies!!!

Re: cerclage question
I'm so sorry about your loss
well, from the little I know about 2nd tri miscarriages, the majority are caused by cervical problems...
is it possible to obtain a copy of your records from your first pregnancy and your current records and send them to a specialist or 2nd OB for another opinion.... maybe someone else may diagnose your last problem as being an incompetent cervix....
If it were me, I would probably get the cerclage... although I believe that also entails bedrest
cervical problems seem to sometimes develop rather quickly and have such tragic consequences that I would personally err on the side of caution....

Re: cerclage question
My friend had a cerclage done, and it saved her pregnancy. She says if your high risk doc recommends it, do it--it does not hurt to have it done!

Re: cerclage question
Hi, I am sorry to hear about your loss. I am 16 wks and 4 days. I was diagnosed two and half weeks ago with an incopemtent cervix. My high risk Dr was able to detected and I do whatever he tells me. I am actually calling my Ob/gyn tomorrow to schedule the cerclage.I'm assuming you see your high risk more then you see your ob. Honestly, from my experience is the past weeks and being on bed rest and constantly paranoid, I am going to listen to what my high risk Dr says. The thing is if you were already diagnosed in the past, chances are it will happen again. So, to be safe, I say go for it. I think you will feel better and confident. That's why Iam doing it. I don't want to be pinned to my bed and live in fear for the next 5 months. I know what you are going through. If you have anymore questions feel free to FM. Hppe this helped.

Re: cerclage question
I just lost our son at 22 weeks due to incompetent cervix. Both the high risk and my OB have said that if I am to get PG again, they would do a cerclage. My OB would want to do it at eight weeks, before the amniotic sac becomes an issue. I would have it done, better to be safe than sorry. As OP said, if you had IC once, you are at a high risk to have it again. I'm not even sure why your OB is against it.

Re: cerclage question
My cousin lost her baby last year at 18 week due to IC. For her next pregnancy the dr will do a cerclage on her at 13 weeks....she will have to be on bedrest for the rest of the pregnancy. I would definitely do it. Better safe than sorry.

Sorry, for misunderstanding you original posting. Was there a pathological testing done when you miscarried? and why is the reason as of why you are seeing a high risk Dr?
I have a high risk Dr and that's b/c I suffer from thrombosis disorder anterpartum(blood clotting) which causes instant miscarriages this is a genetic disorder. and then while in treatment he discover the preterm labor, cervical shortening.
How about seeing a genetic Dr. YOu can do a genetic testing and find out what may have caused and/or can cause future problems. I hope this helps.
