cereal in bottle
My ped recommended that I put cereal in my son's bottle as another way to help his reflux. I use Avent bottlesand my problem is eventhough I am using a #3 nipple the cereal does not seam to be going through.
Can anyone help me?

Re: cereal in bottle
Buy a of extra nipples to use for cereal feeding only and take a sewing needle and make the hole slightly bigger. This is what I did and it worked great.

Re: cereal in bottle
these are some "bad mommy" things that Ive done.
yes, I put cereal in their bottle (although some make it seem like we're putting beer in the bottle )
and just puncture the nipple with a knife a little.
again this is an old school thing to do, and a "bad mommy" thing (or so Ive heard, when I get the I Would NEVER DO THAT" responses) so im not trying to push you to do this, but it worked wonderfully for my boys and I know many mommies that did this. actually one of them didnt care for the cereal in the bottle, and one wouldnt have it without cereal.
a sewing needle didnt quite work for us. we needed a nice big hole

Re: cereal in bottle
Thanks so much! Steven's prescription formula is extremely thin so I will start with the sewing needle and move to the knife as needed And then I can be a bad Mommy too!

I didnt even know they existed !
I thought since it was a "forbidden" thing to do, that there wouldnt be nipples on the market for them... I do have to say, once the baby starts gnawing on the nipple if its cut, the cut does start to expand and soon enough the baby will be pouring milk all over himself although if he/she devours the bottles like my boys, there wasnt even a second for that to happen most of the time

Re: cereal in bottle
You can get Y cut nipples, I am not sure if they make them for the Advent bottles, but when I switched to the Dr Browns and added the cereal it was a whole other world. The spitting up got so much better.
