Changing name on the Deed?

I just got married in November and have to change my name on our mortgage. i asked how I go about changing the name on the deed and they said it gets changed AFTER the house is paid off.
Does that sound right?

Re: Changing name on the Deed?

If they are changing the name on your mortgage and rerecording a new mortgage then a new deed would have to be executed and recorded at the same time as the mortgage as the names in title and the names on the mortgage have to match.

ETA i just called the town and they said that I dont have to change the name on the title. I would have to change it if we were taking out another mortgage. Apparently is a whole to do. They are sending me info for it anyway.

In the end if that is what the town says go with it but don't be surprised if they change their mind later on. The town is famous for saying one thing but when it comes to actually doing it decide there is a new rule they need to follow.
Good luck
