Changing Work Hours...
DH has the opportunity to change his current work time (3pm - 11:30pm) to another shift.
Which of the following do you think is the best schedule? (I work Mon - Fri 8am - 6pm)
1) 3:00pm - 11:30pm (days off rotate - often he has to work weekends)
2) 7:00pm - 3:30am (steady Sunday and Mondays Off)
3) 11:00am - 7:30pm (days off rotate - often he has to work weekends)
he asked me what I want him to do... and I don't know what I think!

I'd say #3 so at least you have weeknights together all the time.

Re: Changing Work Hours...
#3 as well.
My DH's schedule is similar, rotates days off, but he always works 8am-4pm (I work M-F, 9-5) so even on weekends that he has to work, we still have evenings together.

Re: Changing Work Hours...
I know my husband doesn't like working B shifts (the 3-11) because you really miss out on any daytime - you sleep late and basically head out to work. So, I say no to #1.
#3 isn't actually that bad --- because you would get to see him at night every night regardless and he'd get to sleep in, etc.
With #2 -- is he going to still work sat. nights at 7:30 - going through Sunday at 3:30 am? Then, the steadiness of those days off aren't really worth it.
The only caveat I have is I know my husband likes having steady days off because its easier to get your body to bed and make life plans. When you switch around, it's harder - you know?

Thanks so much for all of your responses!!!
I was torn between #2 and #3 but I guess it's better to see him every night than to have every Sunday together (where he would be sleeping half the day away b/c he would have worked the night before until 3:30am).

Re: Changing Work Hours...
my dh does #2 listed - its hard at times b/c he is never available on sats - until after 3:30 - but we work it out - since we have been dating he has done all three options and even before we had samantha, i liked this one the best - midnights didn't work b/c I hated sleeping alone, and "4x12s" were tough since we didn't see each other!

I would go for #3. At least you could spend every night together & know that it is going to be a constant thing. If he gets off on a weekend, then you can enjoy!

#3. Even when he has to work a Saturday or Sunday, he's done by 7:30.

Re: Changing Work Hours...
i would say number 2. you would have him during part of the day and then when u get home from work, u will be able to enjoy each other before he leaves.
figure on a sunday he sleeps for 8 hours, that is around noon, so you can enjoy each other.

Re: Changing Work Hours...
I am assuming he is a cop.
The only thing with the rotating days is that he gets less floating days off. With the steady days he banks the rest of the days so he can use them as vacation days.
Even so #3 is not bad.

Re: Changing Work Hours...
Your husband's a cop right? I'm not sure how solid this change will be but you may want to consider how this shift change would effect you if you decide to have children.
My DH is NYPD and when he was in Narcotics, his schedule was beyond unberable, never knew what he'd be working. Now he's got the best schedule ever. They will never have an ideal schedule but you have to see what works the best for the both of you.
To answer your question, if I had to pick, I'd go w/the steady Sunday /Monday's off.

Yep - he is a cop
You are right about the floating days...
I don't even know how many additional days it would be.
Ugh - I don't know why he even asked my opinion because now I am so undecided about it!

I know what you are saying w/ at least you know when he is off... I don't have children yet and I am not planning on any at least for another couple of years so I am trying not to let that factor in right now...
I am also sort of thinking that the 11am - 7pm might be less dangerous?

I would think so. 11am versus 3am??? I think it would be nice too that he and you could do dinner together and any housework could be done in the mornings

What is he leaning towards. I say let him pick b/c the last thing you want is him being miserable about his hours b/c you wont even want to be around him when he is home.
