Cheap house in Seaford
Looks like a good house to expand or knock it down and build another house

Re: Cheap house in Seaford
I've never seen a "bad" part of Seaford, most of it's pretty nice. Maybe it's near the water, hence the lack of a basement?
I didn't have a basement either and our house now has only a crawl basement (which totally creeps me out, but that's another post.)

Re: Cheap house in Seaford
I contacted the realtor by email to see what type of work the house needs and this is what he said:
The cottage has an updated bath and kitchen. 2 bedrooms need closets to be finished there is some settling of the foundation some attention needed there. Its a nice piece of property and a very low price for seaford.

Re: Cheap house in Seaford
I teach at in Seaford. IMO, if it's near the Harbor I wouldn't live there if you gave it to me. The Harbor is a very strange area. In most towns, the houses by the water are the ritzy area... not Seaford, our most notorious kids come from that area. There are some big beautiful houses in the Harbor and they are all of the parents of those kids send them to Catholic high school because they see the other kids up to no good. Even our two elementary schools have vastly different outcomes on state tests. It's sad but the kids that live down by the Harbor call themselves "harbor rats".
Oh, and they will most likely defeat the school budget for the second time which in the end devalues properties.
I know the hsitory of ther area because my old principal taught there for 33 years and told me everything.
FM me if you want more info about Seaford.

Re: Cheap house in Seaford
It is a VERY mixed area if you know the families... what many of them allow their kids to do, what many of the parents are up to themselves (those that live in the original houses there... not the new construction). Most of the small houses were once summer cottages/fishing cottages that were added onto. Many of them are still around only because the same family has owned them for over 50 years. Others, contractors have bought, knocked down and built bigger houses in the last 20 years... large colonials, and high ranches. These larger houses have been expensive for a long time now and that's where most of the parent's who send their kids to private schools go because they (and this is a quote from one of them) "don't want their kids going to school with the others who the cops seems to know pretty well". Sad because we could use those kids in our high school.
You can FM me directly if you want more info.

Re: Cheap house in Seaford
I always think its funny when people say they send their kids to catholic school because its better then what some of the kids in public school do. I know so many people who went to Trinty and they came out pregant or drug addicts. Kids shooting herion in the bathroom not for me

I went to Trinity for one year and there were people doing lines and dropping acid in the bathroom. The "norm" was to do acid before the finals and have an episode in the classroom so that you would be forced into drug treatment during finals and they would give you a lightweight make-up during the summer. I knew a couple of chicks that pulled this several years in a row. One of the kids I grew up with is addicted to coccaine curteousy of Trinity. My Mom pulled me out because her attitude was "Why pay $5,000 a year to send you to an overpriced public school?"

Re: Cheap house in Seaford
Wow, that's sad. I graduated from Trinity... granted it was 1988. Of course there were kids up to no good but honestly it was mostly drinking and pot back then.
Being an educator I firmly believe that there are good kids and bad kids in every neighborhood, it's just that I know more than I sometimes want to know about the kids in my school. It really is tragic and shocking about what goes on in their homes.

Re: Cheap house in Seaford
Sorry meant to add...
I honestly don't think it's Trinity's fault or any school fault for a student getting addicted to a drug. It has a lot more to do with the student and what's going on in the home. Kids who don't want to partake will find like minded students and vice-versa. A lot of parents place their kids in Catholic school thinking the school is going to raise them or cure them of their behavior... a very naive idea.

Why does it creep you out?
I'm a little claustrophobic and I worry about getting stuck down there.

Re: Cheap house in Seaford
Isn't it funny (sad) when we can call 300,000+ cheap!
Long Island is just getting out of hand with the housing prices.

Re: Cheap house in Seaford
I live in Seaford and I think it is a lovely area, not because I live there. As far as the children in school you will get your share of kids like that where ever you live that has nothing to do with the value of the neighborhood. For 300,000 in Seaford, I am sure the house needs to be knocked down and rebuilt.
