Chicken question - not a recipe

(this is not a recipe, so please don't move my thread!!! Chat Icon)

I bought chicken (perdue thighs and breasts) last Friday, and the date on the packaging said "SELL BY 6/8". I opened it last night to marinade, and it didn't smell bad, so I continued marinading.

My question is, does chicken only last a few days in the fridge? If so, is it okay to eat chicken that was dated 6/8 and it's now 6/11? Again, it doesn't smell - I heard that if you can smell chicken, it's bad. It was a TEENY bit slimier than usual when I opened the package.

If you could let me know ASAP, that would be great! I'm trying to avoid poisoning DH Chat Icon.

TIA!!!

Re: Chicken question - not a recipe

i always use the 3 day rule. if sell by date is 6/8 then i would eat by 6/11. so i would say it's okay.

Yes, if it was "USE BY 6/8" you probably would have been better throwing it away, but when it's "SELL BY 6/8", you can usually get a few more days out of it.
