Re: Child Care
I am just in the process of starting to do child care, and have an interview for monday. At this time I have no children to watch, but if i get more then two children a day, I will need to get Day Care certified and then I will need an assistant. I have already been to the orientation for it. I posted an add next week, in my local paper for four weeks for child care.
If I take on a assistant that probably wouldnt be until January 2007, since we are in the process of moving to Mattituck, and should be moved by september. It takes four months for me to be certified i think, but what I could do if you are intrested know is to start the process, and it would maybe be october/ Novemeber I would be certified, however i need to get more kids.
I could probably work around things, if i where to get more kids quicker, that could maybe be in the next month. There is something through the agency, that i may go through, where the assistant would have to be oked.
I will need an assistant on a reguler schedule probably ft, and down the line maybe a part time one as well, as i have a five year old and there will be day's that i will need to go on field trips possibly for her kindergarden.
The position I think is Assitant teacher, It would be for a day care at my home. Were are you located? And are you at a current job?

Re: Child Care
I am moving to Port Jefferson Station within the next 2 months. I am currently a head teacher for a toddler class and have been at this job for 3 years. I am certified for nursery and pre-k too, with my CDA. I am also getting NYS certified to be an Assistant teacher in public schools, but dont want to do that until I have kids and they are school aged. Do you have an idea of what salary would be? I know its hard to say because you are just getting started.
Is it a difficult process to get certified for home day care? That was something I have wanted to do a some point.

Re: Child Care
Just a quiestion, I looked at getting certified to be a Assistant Teachers aide awhile back, But I have only a few courses in early education. Is that hard to go through?
I will be moving soon, and will be located in Mattituck, that is about fifty minutes from port jeff. So i am not sure if you want to drive that far.
You can get certified through Suffolk county Child Care councel i think it is called, they have a website, I would be going through them, but I found out through a local agency here for kids which has orientations, yearly, about them.
There is alot of paperwork involved i think, and it takes a few months to be oked, classes you would have to take for nutritiun, etc, it is a just like a day care, but at your home! Reguler sighn in sheets, fire drills, set scdeule, set fee people have to pay, minum amount of days they have to attend. No it is not hard to get certified, if anything it is probely very easy, but time consuming.
medical reports from everybody in your family as well, certain toys. And you have to find the kids as well. Not sure what is would pay for an assistant, but i will look at the paperwork and write you back today.
Since it is a set payments for kids, the assitant position would probably pay pretty good, but i would have to check on it.

Re: Child Care
Wow thats great. Yeah 50 minutes is a little far. But thanks for all your advice though and good luck.
As far as the Assistant teaching certification it was an easy test similiar to the SAT. Look on the New york state higher education website and it lists everything.
