Child gained over 10 lbs in one year (5-6)?

Has anyone's child gained over 10 lbs in one year, from ages 5 to 6? How much did your child gain from 5 to 6 and how much did they grow?

Re: Child gained over 10 lbs in one year (5-6)?

I know my one daughter has gained about 5 pounds in about 1/2 a year, which seems like a lot to me. So, she is on her way to 10 pounds. She has also grown a little over 2 inches in height.

So, I am curious to see how much other children have gained also in a year.

My dd gained 10 lbs from 5-6. I was shocked but the doctor wasn't concerned at because she stayed on her curve and it was proportionate to her height. She is at or above the 95th percentile for both.

This happened to my niece because she had a growth spurt but again it was proportionate to her height. Kids go in phases, I know my DS will eat like a beast for a few weeks or months and then eat like a bird.

Since kids are growing, 10lbs doesn't necessarily mean anything bad like it does for us adults. I gain 10lbs and I have to get my @ss to the gym and stop eating donuts. It's like state of emergency. Chat Icon I'm sure this isn't the case with your DD. Sounds healthy but just confirm with her pediatrician to ease your mind.

DD didn't gain any weight from 4 to 6, well maybe a pound or two, but from 6 to 7 she grew three inches and gained 12 pounds. It's amazing what these little bodies do!

My son is a little older but from 8-9 he gained 10 lbs...he's still a skinny Minnie though.

My dd gained about that much from 5-6 and I was freaked out! But the doctor wasn't. From 6-8 she's maybe gained a pound or two and has gotten tall and thin.

My DD gained about that from 7-8. When they told me how much she weighs now, I was like Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon ! But doc says she's fine...still on the same curve for ht & wt.

Re: Child gained over 10 lbs in one year (5-6)?

My son has probably gained close to that in the past several months at age 6. He was always small, was a preemie and the son of 2 short people. But now, the past 6 months or so, holy sh!t has he grown. He's gotten both taller and wider. He's not the littlest among his friends anymore. I'm not really worried because it just brought him to a point where he is closer to average. I'm going to watch his food intake just to keep it more nutrient rich now that he has a big appetite. Oh, and before school started I had to just purge his closet and start over!!!
