Child harness (leash) backpack... wdyt? I'm torn!
I never thought I would even consider getting one, but things change when you have active toddlers right?!
We're going to Disney in April with DD who will be 20 months and want to walk (not be pushed in the stroller) 90% of the time i'm sure. Walking around the mall this weekend she fought to free her hand from ours the entire time! In rolls the backpack harness idea... wdyt? Would you get one? If not, know a better way??

I dont think I could use one for everyday/regular use with DS but i think for instances like a theme park and other very crowded places I could see using one. DS is 17 months and in his independent phase so when we go to DW and Sesame this summer I'm pretty sure I'll be using one.

I have a good friend and a cousin who used one. It seems to work really well for them.... much better than the frustration of a toddler running or wandering away in a public place.

my VERY active 21 month old DS stayed in the stroller when I needed..it was a long day and they are not used to all that walking...and tire easily....she may just suprise you!

Re: Child harness (leash) backpack... wdyt? I'm torn!
I most certainly would. In fact, my mom bought one for DD for Christmas . We haven't used it yet but I would have no issues doing so. Especially in a place like Disney. People can talk all they want but as long as my kid is safe, I don't care.
If you don't mind me asking, is there a reason you don't want to use one? I mean, is it because they are 'frowned' upon?

I would get whatever you need to make sure they're not off & running. It amazes me how quickly they can take off.

that's how i feel, as well
i wish i could put one on DH, too..he tends to get distracted and is like a whole other kid I have to look after

i also thought i would never get it - it toally is a leash for kids.. but if i was going to disney or a crowded place similar to - i would def use it.. your DD will be happier (she will think she is on her own) and you will have a peace of mind knowing she wont run from you..
im also sure she will stay a little closer to you being it will be more crowded than a mall

hell yerah. I'd put him on a straight up dog leash if it would keep him safe.

At a place like Disney, I def would not hesitate to use one. But like another PP said, a child who normally wouldn't use a stroller will probably use one in Disney. That is a TON of walking for their little legs.

I did buy one for my DD but I couldn't get her to wear it...
Which meant that I learned how to pick her up kicking and screaming, hold her down in the stroller and strap her in before she could jump out. Good times.

We went to San Diego when DS was 20 months old. I bought a dog backpack/harness just in case. We went to a lot of very crowded places. We also borrowed SIL's Ergo. I never needed the backpack. DS was content either in the stroller, holding our hand or occasionally being carried in the Ergo. I'd get one just for peace of mind.

My mom gave us one for Christmas...
We're going to Disney next month, DD will also be 20 months and we plan on using it. I'd rather a few stares than her getting lost, she walks wherever she wants to!

Re: Child harness (leash) backpack... wdyt? I'm torn!
Do whatever makes you happy!
However...I was in Disney in January and it was still so crowded at times (i went at a less crowded time too!) and i don't think i would have done the leash thing there...too many people walking in huge groups you know?
I feel like when they are in the stroller they are just better off there. But i did see several kids with those backpack leashes on. Bring one with you along with a stroller and you could always use it if you want.

I don't know, it's kinda embarassing I guess? But i'm considering one now, so whatever works!

I got one for Disney. We ended up never using it but why not. I had it if I needed it.
My views on stuff like that have long changed after I had DS.

I know this may sound a little strange, but my good friend spent some time before she used it building up the idea that having a tail was really special. They pretended they were different animals with tails, etc. Then, her DD was super excited to have her very own tail when she broke out the harness. I know it sounds a little strange, but it did work for her.

I never thought I'd use one, either but I can definitely see myself using one with my younger son.
If it means your child is safe -- go ahead!

I should have posted 2 years ago! Something like this could definitely have worked for my DD.

In a place like Disney - absolutely.
I got a backpack carrier and had Tyler on my back when we just went. Is that an option for you? It was great because he was able to see everything and not feel tied down to the stroller.

Re: Child harness (leash) backpack... wdyt? I'm torn!
I always had no issues with it, I saw nothing wrong with it.
But now that DS is starting to learn to walk, I'm realizing he needs to learn to hold our hand, he needs to learn that when we are outside he has to behave a certain way and holding our hand a requirement not an option.
But then I think about places like Malls and Disney, where distraction are abound for the both of us, a leash thing might not be a bad idea.
