Child Psychologist for OCD
My daughter is showing some OCD tendencies and her school social worker gave me some recommendations but they aren't working out. I am waiting for a list from my insurance company but wanted to know if anyone had any recs preferably in the Patchogue area.

No - we didn't. I did go to the school board and they had a family trainer come to the house but it didn't help much. I think the root of her OCD is anxiety and I have to have that treated. I either cannot find anyone who treats kids that young, or they din't take insurance. DD goes to kindergarten in Sept and if anything she will have to see the school psycologist.
How old is your DC?

I don't know anyone out by you, but if there any colleges/universities that have counseling or psychology programs (maybe Stonybrook?) they will likely have a clinic that the students train at under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. These clinics usually provide low-cost services on a sliding scale. Unfortunately all of the programs that I know are in Nassau, Queens, and Manhattan.

I did call Stonybrook, they didn't mention the particular program you are talking about it but they said it would cost about $1000 for testing and whatnot.  . I would rather wait a few months for her to start kindergarten since her OCD isn't too severe and seems to be under control.

DH suggests checking out Hofstra...they have a psychology program with a clinic associated with it.

Stony brook has an anxiety clinic- with the department of psychology not the hospital, call them, I'm sure it won't be 1000 dollars.

Thank you! I will check it out
Also check out Adelphi and Long Island Univeristy, CW Post. Both have psychology doctoral programs and associated clinics where doctoral students closely supervised by licensed psychologists provide treatment at very low costs.

Yes, this is a great suggestion. It is called the Krasner Psychological Center, Dr Dina Vivian is the director. They have a sliding scale.
