child safety signs
I am in the Town of Hempstead and even though there are 2 stop signs (on in either direction) on my street, directly in front of my house, NOONE stops. I do not live on a busy street, but there are cars that use it as a cut through to other streets. Many people ignore the sign and I am so worried 1 of the 15 kids on my block will get hit. Because there are so many kids, they are always running to cross the street to anothers house.
How do I get one of those "children at play" signs from the town? I don't think it will stop people from running the sign, but maybe it could help.
TIA!!!

Re: child safety signs
I just wanted to say I understand how you feel. We bought our home in the wintertime without realizing it is one of the main streets that goes down to Tanner Park. People who are old enough to know better race up and down our block. It scares the hell out of me because of the kids as well as a disabled woman in a wheelchair who goes up and down the block all day, and I would love sometimes to stick things in the road that could pop their tires.

Re: child safety signs
I would call the local police precinct and ask them for some stepped up patrols of the area...and explain the issue...they can sit a car in the area which will send a message. Good luck!

Re: child safety signs
Contact the County Department of Public Works. Someone on my block contacted them and they put them on both ends of the block.
And last August I wrote them a letter about a different traffic issue after some roadwork was done and they resolved it in less than a week.
