China Cabinet or just Buffet?
I am trying to decide which to get for our Dining Room.
What do you like better?
ETA:This one comes as a set-I might order it and I can always store the hutch portion if needed:

I personally like the look of buffets better because then you can mount a mirror over it, or artwork, and have nice display pieces on top.
BUT - we'll probably go with a china cabinet due to the fact that it will have more storage.

I have a buffet and I love the way it looks. The only thing is it does not have the storage like a china cabinet. If I needed more space, I would have probably leaned towards a china cabinet.

Completely agree. If you need the storage of a china cabinet and you have the room for one, then go for it, but if you don't care about showing off your china or if you don't need the extra storage then go for the buffet with a mirror above. Love that look. Maybe scones on each side of the mirror. Just a thought.

i voted china cabinet. I LOVE buffet's but I personally (now this is me) have lots of glassware and passed on collectibles, crystal, etc. I need to visual storage on these items because where else would i put it?
If i just had china (i never registered for it) i would get the buffet unless you wanted to display it all the time.

I was torn over this as well. I prefer the look of a buffet, but I do like the look of some china cabinets (the ones that do not look like formal, perfect match to table, old school cabinets).
Anyway, the way I solved my problem is by doing tall built-in cabinets on one side of the room, and possibly adding a not-too-deep buffet on the opposing wall if there's room.

My master plan is to have both...but my dining room is a good size.
I guess if it were me and I HAD to pick one...I'd go china cabinet. I like the look of displayed china.

I prefer buffets because they don't feel like they take over the whole room. It does not feel as "heavy". You can use the top as serving space.
But if you have a lot of glasswear and china then you probably needs the space/display of a china cabinet

i would prefer a buffet....i *wish* we had room in our dining area for one...
i prefer the look of shelving over the buffet to display china...if it's done right i think it can look great and more modern - china cabinets are a little old fashioned for my taste however i do like other types of cabinets that are used as china cabinets - i was in love with a bookshelf cabinet that i wanted to get (karin actually has it) but again i don't room for any more furniture in my dining area - boo!
