chip in my windshield...help
Does anyone know a glass place anywhere from Farmingdale to queens that will drill it out and repair it - instead of changing out my whole windshield? I have to turn my car in - in 6 weeks!!

Re: chip in my windshield...help
i didnt even know you can do this. my old car was a lease- i had a chip and returned it like that- it falls under wear and tear- sometimes it cant be helped when rocks fly into your windshield. Now with my truck I have another little chip- i am wondering when my lease is up next year if I should return it and see if they take it back again....
what is this company?? they can get chips out??

Re: chip in my windshield...help
How much does it cost to repair a chip? DH actually just called a place today to do this and it cost $50, but they wouldn't guarantee that it would not ever spread. Does $50 sound right? They would come to us to do the repair.

Re: chip in my windshield...help
I know you have already had the work done.. But I wanted to give you girls some knowledge for the future....
Everyone is making safelite to be the best company... Well did you know that they make there own glass which pits up within 6months, it gets SO bad that you have to go get it replaced again... As well as they reuse your old moulding instead of replacing them... Also ask them what kind of glue they are using... Urethane is the best and I dont think there are using that...
As far as stone chips go... If there is any lines coming from the chip.. Yes you can get it filled but it still may crack in the future... Remember you window expands and contracts with the temp....
With lease cars .. Most leasing companies will not accept a car back with a chip or crack that has been filled... You will still be charged for the windshield.... So before you fill it ask the leasing company there policy....
I can go on forever with this subject SO if you want more info.. FM me ....
Safelite is a very big company that also administrators glass claims... SO if you ever do call in a glass only claim and they tell you or try to get you to use them... YOU dont have to... You have the right to choose any glass shop of your choice... They all have agreed pricing with your insurance company and they pay them what they feel the work is worth... You as a consumer will not EVER pay out of pocket for anything other then your deductible...

Re: chip in my windshield...help
Safelite guaranteed me that my car will pass lease inspection - (they also guarantee it passes state inspection) and they give you documentation that effect - I just wanted to add that.
I have 4 more weeks with my car so I hope it passes w/o a problem.

I also work in the Auto Glass Industry and can tell you the above statement is 100% Correct!! Safelite might do a good job at an avarage of 2 out of every 10 cars. The reason most people do not know how unskilled and bad workmanship is, is due to the fact that most people who turn in their leased vehicles, will never know that the work had to be Re-Done. They do not build their business on repeat customers or referrals because they constantly have to have their work corrected by other companies. We get a lot of their customers and tell us their horror stories!! Everything from: moldings flying off, leaking windows, etc... They count on their customers not coming back to them with the same car, because they know what a mess and time consuming job it is going to be to take out the same window, due to the Cheap Products they use!! As a result, the windows are installed very poorly and if in accident, the window and you will go flying out!!!!
Please do research before putting you and your families lives in jeopardy!!!
