Chipped
We had Katie microchipped on Monday. Just wondering how many of you have done this.

Re: Chipped
My cat is chipped, I got from the town animal shelter... they chip all the animals before they leave.

Re: Chipped
My cats are chipped, and now I regret it. I found out not too long ago that there is no "standard" for chips. If my cats are found by someone in the Queens, there is no guarantee that someone with a chip scanner will see it- there are so many manufacturers, and they don't all use the same technology, kwim?
It didn't hurt them and it didn't cost me a fortune, i just feel bad that they have this foreign object in their bodies that wouldn't really help if they got lost.

Did they give you a tag to put on their collars?

Actually, although there isn't a standard. There is one company, I believe it's Avid, who has the chip reading machines at almost all shelters (they supplied them) so chances are very good that if your animal were taken to a shelter it would be traced back to you. There is another new company, Homeagain, that is trying to become standard, but I think that may be difficult since Avid is already sort of the standard.
