Choking feeling?

Besides my other issues on the other thread I've posted, I've been having a choking feeling in my throat that comes and goes. It feels like someone is pushing on my neck/throat area or like someone's fingers are shoved down my throat. I can breathe fine but it's very uncomfortable.

Of course as soon as I have a brief lapse in insurance coverage, all of these issues appear. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Choking feeling?

that happened to me a long time ago. i went to an ENT and he said my throat was perfectly fine and most likely some kind of anxiety. it went away after i broke up with my boyfriend at the time. ;)

Re: Choking feeling?

Sometimes that could be related to GERD (acid reflux). I get the throat symptoms, not the heartburn. It feels like there's a lump in my throat. Like you, it doesn't affect my breathing. It is even made worse when my sinuses/allergies act up, b/c I get the post-nasal drip that goes with that, so the drip also causes irritation in the throat. I find that taking something for allergies and prescription medication for the reflux together give me relief. A good ENT will be able to tell you if it's from reflux or not, so you can rule it out. Feel better :)

I had that too, ended up being MVP (cardiac issue)....anxiety is part of it. It is really uncomfortable. Try not to think about it too much, when i thought about it,I panicked and sometimes passed out. Drove myself nuts! Try chewing gum. I would chew gum to take my mind off it until it passed.

Re: Choking feeling?

I've had this. It was mostly anxiety but sometimes brought on by GERD or allergies (post nasal drip) as well. Next time it happens try some antacid. If that doesn't work, try a Claritin. If that doesn't work try Xanax.

That's what I do. The Xanax is the answer 90% of the time.
