Chores - What do your kids do?

I am going to need a routine for DS & I this summer and I believe its time to include some basic household chores. What are your 7 or so year olds household responsibilities?

My son is six. He has few daily chores, but I am thinking it is time. He is responsible for his room, sorts dirty his laundry daily, puts away his clean laundry with guidance, clears his dishes. I think he could start setting the table, taking out garbage and feeding the dog. I am curious to see what others say. Thanks for the post.

Re: Chores - What do your kids do?

My kids have to keep their bedroom clean ( i still end up going over it about 2-3 times a month) they take care of their pets ...we have to help clean the cages but they feed them check water etc.....they also either help set or clear the table..they are 9 and 11....that is to earn their cell phones....anything above and beyond that is optional at set dollar amounts so they can "earn" money for things they want....

Nothing crazy. Stuff that's mostly FOR them.. although they don't recognize it!

Robbie is 9 and Noah is almost 7.

Morning: Make bed, brush teeth, get dressed, clean up their own place at the table after breakfast (put away dishes, wipe down area), pack snacks, make sure backpack is locked and loaded.

After School: Put shoes and jackets away, unpack backpack, make sure all notes requiring our attention are put in the right place for us to review, pick their snack (they are allowed one fruit and either crackers, string cheese or hard boiled egg after school), do homework, make sure we sign whatever needs to be signed, pack homework back in backpack and put pack away, get ready for any games or activities scheduled that day, set table for dinner, help with meal (they will mix things or open things or put the salad together or make burger patties.. it depends.), clean up their spots after supper, put their dirty clothes away, shower on shower days, get pajamas and put them on, take out clothes for the next day and lay them out, brush teeth, wash face and hands on non-shower days, say prayers.

They also clean the playroom about 3x a week and are responsible for cleaning up any messes that they make at any time in any place - crayons on the floor, spilled juice, etc..

ETA: Forgot.. they also do yardwork, pulling weeds, moving stuff off the lawn for the mower, watering their own plants

Basically they have to clean up after themselves. But "chores" wise, my 6 and 5 year olds clear the dinner table, take out plastics and put them into the recycling container, and are "in charge" of turning off the lights in the rooms no one is in.

My SS is 14 (although developmentally he is 7-8) His chores beyond keeping his room clean are collect the laundry and sort it (we don't have him start the wash) and he clears the table after dinner.
