Christening Dilemma...

So we originally planned on having Alexandra's Christening in late April/Early May, maybe even June, but we are having the HARDEST time finding a restaurant/hall on the same dates the church has available.Chat Icon
I mean, I tried EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!
We are now looking into July, when she will be over 6 months old, do you think that is too late to have a Christening? I just don't know what else to do?!

I hear you on that one. Trying to coinside the church with a place is so hard, especially in the spring time. We have been having that same problem. I wouldn't worry about how old she is, my cousin just had her son christened and he was a year old.

Re: Christening Dilemma...

Where are you looking to have it? Do you want to just have a small affair or something big?

Personally, if my son's weren't in LI, we'd just do it at my house like we did with Gabriella's.

I don't want it at the house b/c DH has a big family, house isn't huge, worried about rain and also dog getting loose if we have it outside. Too much of a pain for me.
We are talking 50 adults probably, PLUS many children!
I would love to have a small affair, but that's not going to work.Chat Icon

You know what it is, thats is prime time for communion/confirmation parties, showers, etc.

Don't stress out, I don't think 6 months is too old, you are never too old! My niece was just 8 months when they had her baptism.. its fine!

Bella is being Christened next weekend...she will be 6 1/2 months old...we had a huge problem doing it earlier because of the holidays, my cousin's wedding, and my Dad's surgery...I think you'll be fine

May is a big communion month and wedding showers...

No I don't think it's too late. Nate was a few days shy of 6 months for his baptism. We waited for Thanksgiving weekend so my family could come to Chicago for more than 2 days.

I don't think 6 months is too old, just that before you know it you will probably be having a big 1st birthday. Why not have the christening earlier, (remembering what baptism is all about, lol, not the hall!!) - and just have a small family celebration and save the big party for the 1st birthday when there are more venues available? Just a thought!

Trust me, I wish I could, but DH's family is too big! You invite one person, you invite thirty, you know? (At least they're cool).Chat Icon

I agree with Donna. I just found out that my new church only does baby dedications in May and October. Since I am due in May, we will have it in October and my baby will be 5 months old.

That's not too late. My friend is christening her daughter when she will be around 8 months and I baptized Jake when he was 7 months.

What kind of place are you looking for and in what area? Maybe I can help.

Re: Christening Dilemma...

we are having ours in june. she will be 5 months by then. i totally understand with the big family and all. we had a hard dtime finding a hall also and ended up with captain bills in bayshore. i feel bad that we have people going to the church in huntington and then having to travel to bayshore but it was the only place that was reasonable, available and what we were looking for. our list is for 140 people we are guaranteeing 100 hopefully we get 100 people.

Re: Christening Dilemma...

EMily is 5 months old and we haven't even started planning one yet. We don't really have the $$ for a big one so we're probably going to do a small one and just immediate family will go out to dinner with us over the summer.

Re: Christening Dilemma...

We are having my son's first birthday party at the end of April and we had the same problem as you - almost every place we looked was booked! I don't know your budget or what area you wanted to have the party, but if you were looking at April 30 I can tell you what places we found that were still available.

I don't think six months is too late. We had Jesse's at three months and of course my mom thought we waited too long Chat Icon but she's very old school (I was baptized three weeks after I was born!) Do what you think is right and don't worry about what everyone else thinks.

Re: Christening Dilemma...

I had mine in May last year and I had a terrible time finding a place that was free the day the church would do the christenings in May. I wanted to do it while he was young so I kept searhcing. I searched and found pretty much one place that was free that day. Luckily it was a place that I love the food at - it was just a tad bit small for my group - I invited about 70 people (immediate family and only some close friends) but luckily only 45-50 we able to attend. So we fit and it was only a little tight.

But on the other hand, my son was 3.5 months and probably the youngest baby that got baptized that day - so don't worry 6 months isn't too old.

Its not too late at all..plus the weather will make for many beautiful pictures.
Where in LI are you looking??? We had our sons communion party last May (primetime) at the Galleria Restaurant on Post Road, they have 2 sections of the restaurant they use as party rooms...delish food & suprisingly decent price. Their prefix was something like $30 - $40 (depending what you keep/omitt) included api's,first-second course,cake,coffee..coctails.
