Christening gift question

I cannot attend a friend's baby's christening this weekend because I am on bedrest.
I'd rather send an actual gift rather than money. Do you think a baby's first christmas ornament is inappropriate for a gift?
I don't really like super religious things as I am Jewish and my friend is not really religious at all.

I don't think it's inappropriate at all.

My MIL gives a keepsake baby's first lock of hair and baby's first something or other from Things Remembered.... just to give you another idea.

How about a bond? Or, I received a few statues - such as one that showed an angel on top with animals and it opened to a small chest - such as what a pair of earrings would fit in.

good idea too - esp if it can be engraved with her baptized name. Like a cross or heart.

ITs for a boy... I should have mentioned that!
I know if I get something religious, like with a cross on it or something she won't use it. Thats why I was thinking maybe an ornament would be good for her.

Re: Christening gift question

Are they sentimental? I received a baby cross keepsake box from Things Remembered.

It's big enough to hold their outfit and then there's a shadowbox top that can hold the invitiation/thank you card/pictures.

I think an ornament is good. Someone gave DS a silverplated bank with his initials on it from Fortunoff. I thought that was really cool and different.
