Christening/Godparent question
Do both godparents have to be catholic? I want to have my baby christened at my church, but we haven't asked the godparents yet. One is not catholic and I don't know if the church will allow it.

Re: Christening/Godparent question
most churches only require 1 Godparent..I just did this and they would just be called on paper a "christian witness"

Re: Christening/Godparent question
My church requires one godparent to have made all the sacraments (baptism, communion & confirmation) and the other godparent must at least be baptized Christian and will be listed as a "Christian witness" but every church is different so I'd check with your church before asking them.

Re: Christening/Godparent question
This is a huge issue for us now too. We need one godparent to have made all sacraments and the other to be at least baptized. The godfather my DH wants to use for our DD hasnt been baptized yet. He wants us to lie and say he was but I'm not comfortable doing that and I think they might check or ask for specifics. Let me know what you all think.

what church are you getting DD baptized at? I only ask b/c I remember your wedding pics and you got married in Port Jeff right? We are baptizing our daughter at Infant Jesus and are going to the baptism "class" on 9/28-I could let you know if they ask for anything on the godparents

Re: Christening/Godparent question
Ideally both... howver you can have one non-catholic or a " godparent-by-proxy"

Re: Christening/Godparent question
we only needed one catholic..that person had to be practicing and have documentation to prove it.
the other could not have made their confirmation if its a non catholic. They would not allow me to have any "use to be Catholic converts"

Totally unrelated to baptisms but is Fr. Chuck baptising your baby? I love him. He was the priest who married us! I have known him for years.
