Christening on Saturday, Celebration on Sunday - What do you think?
My cousin is having a very hard time finding a restauraunt to celebrate her daughters christening same day she gets christened. Reason being that the christening time is 1:30 I would say by she would need the restauraunt from 3pm-6pm. This is cutting into their "dinner time folks coming in" so they are telling her to do the christening on Saturday (which can be done by church) and have the celebration on Sunday.
What do you think of this? Have you ever received an invitation like this? I told her to be prepared that not everyone will make the church. Her brother who will be the godfather already told her he is not going to take off two days in a row for work (saturday and sunday). Do you think that was wrong of him to say?
I'm running out of options to help her. If you can think of any suggestions, know of any places in Suffolk county that will do BOTH in same day please let me know.

I think that is a lot to ask of people. She can't find any place that will do it? I would keep looking till I found a place or I would have it at my house.

Re: Christening on Saturday, Celebration on Sunday - What do you think?
We are having my DD's christening on a Sunday ( 2:00pm church) with party to follow at the Island Hills Golf & Country Club in Sayville....Its the 1st week-end in April and I had no problem with that date when I was calling around to restaurants....Maybe she was just unlucky with the places she called ???
Probably, her best bet is to find a restaurant with a seperate party room ( don't know how many people shes having), so it doesnt interfer with dinner time...
John Harvards in Lake Grove Dave & busters- Islandia Sweetwaters- Hauppauge Flaming Hearth- Farmingville Due Amici- Ronkonkoma Brunos- Ronkonkoma Oscars- St.James (?)

Suffolk theirs a pizza place in bellport that has a private room and their food is to die for!! Maybe they will do on a sat, since they have a private side room?
I cant believe the Godfather wouldnt take off one weekend for his Godchild.. thats not right. He should be there for both.

I agree with Stacey that it is a lot to ask of people.

Seriously? In this economy? If someone works on Saturdays and Sundays and needs to take both days, their boss will be pizzed.

I do think that's a lot to ask of guests. I know our Christening is at 2PM on a Sunday. We're renting a room at our community clubhouse. The party will start around 4PM. She could do a VFW or try renting a room at a hotel or something. I would keep it the same day.

Sweetwaters in Hauupauge is onky open on Sundays for Parties. Also, the Grill room in Hauppauge is only open for parties on sundays.

actually as somebody who used to work in the resturant business, taking off two weekend days DEEPLY affects your income. I know myself, I would only take off 1 weekend day. In the hospitality field, the weekends are the money shifts.

Depends what the GF does for a living. He could work for a place where it's hard to take off and get coverage....There are plenty of places in Suffolk to host a party after an afternoon ceremony. There is really no need to take off 2 days....
Not to run off the OP topic.. but just way it sounded to me was that GF said he wouldnt take off.. not that he couldnt so thats why I thought it wasnt right of him.. If he cant b/c job would fire him or what not is a different reason all together.

Re: Christening on Saturday, Celebration on Sunday - What do you think?
eh, we almost ran into a similar issue, my dd is being christened on Holy Saturday at our churches Easter Vigil ceremony..and we cant have the party sunday cause its easter!! But, since the ceremony is 2-3 hours long AND at nite, we felt bad taking up peoples entire day..we were gonna do the party the following weekend, but i too feel like its too much to ask people to take 2 weekend days off in a row, people have their own lives, even if theyre not working, its alot to ask of someone.. we decided on brunch..
i do believe there are a TON of places that will host a dinner party, i think shes just calling the wrong places..

Re: Christening on Saturday, Celebration on Sunday - What do you think?
I will suggest a hall to rent and yes the restauraunts she has called doesn't have a private room so that's why she is running into this problem. She knows the restauraunts that's why she wanted them but you can't have it all.
Someone suggested Orlando's in Commack, they have a private room. Has anyone eaten there???
As far as the GF he's his own boss and makes the schedule for work. He's got people that can cover. There is drama/tension with the relationship between him and cousins DH. So we think he said that just to be difficult. Anyway we told her these are the kind of things you need to expect, that not everyone will be at the church. I guess it just hurt her that brother told her he wouldn't go being that he has an important role - if she decides to go the two day route.

I love brunch, that's a great idea! Where did you book your brunch?
I personally would much rather do it the way you've got it planned. That would be a LONG day even for you guys and baby if you did the same day. Must be a lot of babies for it to be 2-3 hours. I know it's nice to have everyone there but as long as immediate family is there (your parents, DH's parents and siblings) I thing it will be a nice time.

Re: Christening on Saturday, Celebration on Sunday - What do you think?
Emerson's christening is tomorrow and we rented the clubhouse at my Gram's complex for her party following the ceremony and we had the food catered. I would suggest that maybe she do something similar and then time doesn't matter. I personally think you are asking a lot of friends and family to basically give up an entire weekend for your celebration especially if people don't live all that close by. I guess you can break it up over 2 days but I would imagine that many people will probably just skip the church and make the party.

Re: Christening on Saturday, Celebration on Sunday - What do you think?
I agree that it is a huge inconvenience for the guests - I think most people will go to one event or the other but probably not both. If I could not find a place to have it at I would probably just host something (not sit-down) at my house. Not to sound harsh but I don't think I would want to give up my entire weekend for a christening.

I suggest trying to find some way to do it all in one day. I do think asking people to give up their entire weekend is alot.
I'm sorry I can't recommend anywhere I'm haven't lived in LI in years. Good luck

I had my wedding at Villa Lombardi's in 2007 --- at that time they were many families having Christenings -- I think their price is pretty reasonable.
