Christening related...
I'm so upset. I really want my sister to be the Godmother of this baby, but we're having trouble finding a male for the Godfather that is Confirmed. Everyone that I want to be the Godfather, can't be. Since my sister wasn't confirmed she can be a Christian witness, but then we need a confirmed male. I'm soooo upset because this was the problem with Caiden. She was suppose to be Caiden's Godmother, but we couldn't find a confirmed male so we had to go with completely different people. There's nothing she can do about getting confirmed now because they only do it once a year in June, and the "training" is about 6-9 weeks long. I don't know what to do? Any ideas?

Re: Christening related...
I didn't want to jump in on the PG board (because we are not PG yet (or that I am aware of) ) but I am the god-mother to my niece and I was never confirmed. I was baptised and made my communion but never my confirmation and it was no problem at all. The baby was baptised at Saint Matthews church in Dix Hills. HTH

Re: Christening related...
All the churches are telling me that one of the parents have to be a Confirmed Catholic. If it was just being Baptized I wouldn't have a problem.
Yes, so you should be fine with just the one person having made all of their Sacraments.

I was told as long as one Godparent was a baptized catholic, we were fine.
But is it baptized Catholic or baptized Christian? I wouldn't think it would matter since it is "one baptism."
Sorry, just a technical question, since my friend asked me to be the Godmother to her son and I am baptized Lutheran.

Re: Christening related...
I don't understand how each Catholic church has different "rules"? You would think that the same rules apply throughout!

Re: Christening related...
I have never heard of a Catholic Church that allows you to have 2 baptized only godparents. That is probably a Christian church of another kind. It matters a lot..a different type of Christianity is not the same as Catholic and the baptism is different. But if they were baptized christian and then confirmed Catholic..the Catholic would be considered their religion. Why can't your sister take the 6-9 week course at another neighboring church? Is she calling around to multiple churches? If not, then she should. I don't think there is an easy answer..but your sister did not get confirmed so I am sorry. Are you happy with Caiden's godparents?

Re: Christening related...
Well, I tried contacting some churches in her area, and all of them have said that the Confirmation ceremony is only held in June. So she just missing it. She would have to wait until next year to do so. I thought that you can do it anytime of year?
I am happy with Caidens' Godparents, but they never call, write or even send Caiden a card. So that kind of bothers me. I know it's not on purpose, they're just busy, but I would of liked them to take more of an interest in him. They live on LI we're in NC, but still.

Re: Christening related...
My mom isn't Catholic and my dad isn't confirmed either! So much for religious friends and family!
When we first picked them as Godparents I would of thought they would of been a bigger part of Caiden's life. I guess I was wrong! Now if my sister was his Godmother, then she would always contact him and stuff. She already does!

Re: Christening related...
Well DH and I are the godparents of 1 of my sisters sons. I am Jewish and DH was baptised and made a commuinon but never confirmed. We told the Church right off the bat that I was Jewish and they asked if DH was a practicing Catholic. So we said "yes" and figured we would wait for the registration packett to come in the mail.
Well, it came and sure enough there was nothing in there asking us to "prove" our eligibility. So, we became the Godparents of Matthew.
But, my sister had originally picked a different Church who were ok with the fact that I was Jewish and Carmine didn't complete religion through to confirmation. However, 2 weeks before the Christening they went over the registration paperwork again and realized we weren't married in a Catholic Church and they flipped. I was like "How would you expect us to be married in a Catholic Church if we told you from the beginning I was Jewish".
Anyway with less than two weeks before the Christening my sister and I found the church I was speaking of first and everything went off without a hitch!
SSL!

Re: Christening related...
While some Churches do not ask for "proof" I would find it hard to actually be untruthful about a requirement and stand up and promise to be a godparent JMO, of course. If you are a non-confirmed person you are considered a "witness" by the Church, not a godparent..although all of these title have no legal place anyway. Molly's godfather was a witness since he was not confirmed. Only her godmother is listed as a godparent on her baptism certificate.

Re: Christening related...
Is there any way that you could contact one of the priests directly and see if they'll do private classes and a private ceremony. If your family is active in the church then they might be willing to make some sort of special arrangement.
Good luck!
