Christening Spinoff - What kind of party would cost more?

I'm determining between a party at a restaurant that would cost about $38pp, including beer, wine and soda.

OR

Renting a room for $250 and getting it catered, buying beer/wine/soda, hiring a waitress or two, etc.

Both would also involve getting a custom cake, centerpieces, D.J., etc.

But, for the basics... am I really saving anything by going for the rented hall vs. restaurant?

TIA!

ETA: Guessing we would have about 80 guests.

EATA: Only friends would really drink. Family... not so much.

We did a hall and it was 200 for the room. We bought bottles of soda and we got a 1/2 keg and bottles of wine.

Soda was 50 (I got 50 bottles for 86 people DEF did not need that much! I got them $1 each on sale at Stop and Shop)
Beer was 75. Wine (12 bottles) I think $120 it was.

The places I looked at it charged per person to drink and I KNOW not everyone drinks Alcohol so it was a waste to me.

I had the food catered it was like 1200.

I think is is cheaper than the restaurant.

But for us we had to clean up etc. Our immediate families are large so they all helped.

If I did it all over again I would keep it the same a restaurant would of be way more money for us

I would say renting a room would probably work out to be a bit cheaper.

Restaurant:
$38pp x 80 = $3040
(Not sure if that includes tax pp or not)

Rent a Room:
$250 Room
$1000-$1500 Food
$300-$500 Beer/Wine/Soda
$250 Waitress Staff
$1800-$2500 TOTAL
(Obviously these are just rough round about numbers)

I didn't factor in the centerpieces, DJ, custome cake, etc as that would be the same regardless of venue.

The other factor to take into account though is that with a room, YOU will probably have to do most of the work - set up, break down, make sure food is delivered, etc. At the restaurant, that will be done for you.

ETA: Had to fix some #'s

Good question...I was thinking the same thing. Do you have to provide your own plates, napkins, cups, linens, etc. if you rent a room?
