Re: Christmas Cards for non-Christmas celebraters

I always write "Happy Holidays" or some variation on my cards. My cards are generally Christmasy looking (last year's had an ornament on it, this year is a snowflake). I don't see why I would wish someone a Merry Christmas when they don't celebrate the holiday.

Re: Christmas Cards for non-Christmas celebraters

i just like the pictures on the cards. i don't care what it says. i look forward to getting all the cards because of them photos of the kids /families.

as for what we send, i sent to a million people, and i never have enough time to get them done, so i do happy new year, just to give myself a few extra weeks to mail them. LOL

we celebrate Christmas- we send out Merry Christmas cards...

If someone gets offended by a wish of good will and happiness- no matter what the wording- they need to get a grip.

I completely agree.

This is what I do.
No religion offended, no holiday or season left out.

I find lots of holiday/snow/cheerful type cards out there that don't say Christmas anywhere on it.

Re: Christmas Cards for non-Christmas celebraters

My sister write Happy Holidays; however, she picks whatever card them she wants and puts my neices pic on it. Babies are so cute, no one is going to care about the theme or what it says.

Re: Christmas Cards for non-Christmas celebraters

I was just having this conversation with someone yesterday. I dont celebrate Christmas. While I do not send out cards that say "Merry Christmas", I am not usually offended when someone send me one that says "Merry Christmas"

I am on the opposite side...
I send Happy Chanukah cards to all bc thats what we celebrate with dds pics on it and I also agree with the previous 2pp...my intent would be to wish everyone well for the Holiday Season...Believe me in no way am I trying to harm anyone...its just what we celebrate.

Re: Christmas Cards for non-Christmas celebraters

As a Jew, I understand that most of the population and the bulk of our friends who send us holiday cards are NOT Jewish. I also understand that we are a minority and I do not expect people to go out of their way to accommodate my religion by buying Chanukah cards for us. "Seasons Greetings" or "Happy Holidays" cards are fine.

Nowadays I find that we do not get cards that say "Merry Christmas," but rather one of the other options that would seem to encompass all celebrations.

As for what we send out, I usually do one of a few things:

Happy Holidays Cards for those who celebrate Christmas, Chanukah or interfaith families

Interfaith cards (can be found if you look hard enough)

Chanukah Cards for Jewish families

Christmas Cards for Christian families.

I personally would NEVER send a Chanukah card to a Christian family.

This year since we are doing picture cards, it was simple enough to use the same pictures and layout but change the message and background. It did not cost any more to do it.:

I received a beautiful interfaith card from a coworker a few years ago. I didn't know they had such a thing, but she was newly married into a Jewish family so I think she tried really hard to accommodate both families, since hers is Eastern Orthodox. We are not an interfaith family, but I really liked I that she covered all her bases & am not really offended if someone wants to wish me a happy anything.

ETA- Those are gorgeous picture of your daughter!

Re: Christmas Cards for non-Christmas celebraters

I don't think it's a big deal to get a box of non-Merry Christmas cards that can certainly be reused over the years. I don't send Happy Chanukah cards to my non-Jewish friends.

I don't know why you'd buy a whole box of cards for 2 people honestly.

We have very dear friends of the family who are Jewish and I send them a Merry Christmas photo card with my DS on it and last year they went out and bought him a Merry Christmas card and mailed it back!Chat Icon

Where does saying Merry Christmas wish someone good will & happiness if they're not Christian?

You're wishing them a Merry holiday that they don't celebrate or acknowledge?

I do not send Merry Christmas cards to non-Christians. Just doesn't make sense to me. This year I made two versions of my card - one that says "Merry Christmas" and one that says "Happy Holidays." In the past (before having a photo card of DD), I'd just get a box of holiday cards and the rest Christmas.

I would just send the same one out that you send to everyone. Even if they dont celebrate its not like your doing anything evil...its a Christmas card. I dont think it would be offensive.

Re: Christmas Cards for non-Christmas celebraters

To be honest, everyone is different. DH loves christmas and he's Jewish but his mom was angry at me because I gave her and her (Roman Catholic) husband a holiday gift on Christmas Eve. I didn't plan it that way it was just when I saw her. Did I menion it was still Chanukah? Just make the card how you want, you could always say something like Happy Holidays or Season's Greetings.
