Church/Relgious Groups- What do you have/What would you want?
I teach special ed CCD at my parish (we're one of the few parishes that offer it), and we're trying to make a concerted effort to reach out the commmunity to provide more resources. Some of the things we've already done is to make announcements at church to help the congregation get used to our kids. Some of them have been kind of rude, but I think they just don't realize that our kids are special needs, so we are trying to make them aware.
We've also thought about having parents nights out where we watch the kids and let the parents meet up for dinner so they can form connections.
One of the priests mentioned a "light of faith" group. When i looked this up online it seemed to be about homeschooling and creationism. I don't think I found the right thing. Does anyone else have this, and if so, what's a good link?
So, what do you have at your church or synagogue, and what suggestions do you have about things you'd like to see? I really appreciate the feedback because I want to do some research and try to suggest things that will be most helpful for our families.
TIA!

I'm not a member of a church or temple but if I was I would LOVE this idea!

We can easily do this because we know the kids from Sunday school and they know each other, so the parents can trust us to meet the needs of the families. I'm hoping the families cna form connections with other families, especially since some are less educated or don't speak much English in my community, so i think it's even more beneficial for them to network.
