CIO experts, early morning question
How do you handle it if they wake at 5am, 6am, etc? when they are supposed to sleep till 7.
This is what I did, and I'm not sure, I think I confused DS. ( sorry long ... optional read )
DS usually sleeps till around 7-7:30, lately he's been all over the place waking up at night odd times, etc.
In the middle of the night, I will not go in, but I notice the he will cry for 1-2 min and go back to sleep, its never lasted more than that, unless he rolled himself into a position he couldn't get out, and in that case I went in to help him, and let him CIO another 5-10 min to get back to sleep.
So he woke up at 6 cried for a minute, slept for 10, cried for a min, slept for 10, I didn't go in, but at 6:15 he rolled over and started crying, I gave him 2 min to figure it out, then went in, calmed him, etc.
I thought for sure he was going back to sleep, so I left, the minute the door shut, hysterics ensue! So I left him for 5 minutes, he quieted down. Now he's sleeping I think ...
He does this weird thing of crying 1 minute, sleeping 10. For hours in the early morning. I don't go in, but I'm not sure if I should have been.
I have tried giving him ibuprophen and it doesn't seem to change anything one way or another, I don't think its teething.
TIA!

Re: CIO experts, early morning question
I was just going to ask this! DS did the same thing today since 5:30am. On and off. I finally went in to get him at 7am. I didnt wanna get him too early if he was still tired, but I didnt want to ignore him if he was ready to get up. I'm still not sure what to do.

I don't know how old your DC is but although it sux I don't think a wake up time of 530, 6, etc is abnormal for a baby. My DD is 2 and is up anywhere from 515 to 7..nothing I do differenlty helps her sleep later. The 7 am is very far and few..mostly up by 620..she is in bed by 730 so I feel like that is a long stretch so I don't do CIO in the morning hours..esp because her diaper is usually very wet.

Re: CIO experts, early morning question
I think what you did is fine. My DS will do something similar too. Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child says that if your baby goes to bed around 7, you shouldn't go in at all before 6am. But if they're waking at 6, then that's a reasonable time (according to the author, anyway, LOL ) and you can't really expect much more than that - ie they've already slept 11 hours.

I agree. I don't do CIO any time after 5 am really bc I think that babies really can wake that early.

Re: CIO experts, early morning question
Thanks for the replies, let me clarify and add a few things, and a couple questions
DS is 6.5m old, he goes down at 8-830pm. What is the cutoff point in my case? 6am? 7am?
Also, what is he doing when he cries for 1min and sleeps for 10 even 20 minutes? He can go on like this for literally hours.
Eta: he is not ready for wake up (at least I don't think so), I've taken him to bed on several ocassions and he will sleep till 8am, and wake up smiling and babling
I'm so not used to him waking up screaming.

Agreed! If DS wakes up earlier than usual I will put him in his swing and turn the tv on...he usually falls back asleep, but I know I am going to have to get rid of the swing soon Sometimes if I am REALLY tired I will snuggle inmy bed with him
