CIO for a playing baby? She's having a good old time, but I need to sleep!

I've heard a lot about CIO and watched a video on it last night. All the babies in the video were crying when their parents left them, but DD plays! She will stand in her crib and walk around and babble.

Is it the same as CIO if I just let her do that till she falls asleep? Do I still pop in the room at the 5, 10 and 15 minute intervals? What if she falls and hits her head? (she did this last night) Can I go in and comfort her?

She also wakes at random times in the night - last night was at 4, the night before was at 1, Sunday night was at 2:30! and when she wakes shes just babbling and crawling/walking. I try feeding her, but she only takes 3 oz. Then I will either rock her back to sleep or she plays/babbles until she falls asleep on her own- that can take an hour or more...

We've been doing the routine since 2 months, so she knows its bed time - this playing started when she learned how to pull herself up about a month ago. She is 6.5 months now. Bedtime is between 8:30 and 9:00.

Ryan has been doing the same lately - up in the middle of the night and babbles to his Mickey doll, etc. He's not crying - just up and chatty. I think it's a milestone thing. I just ignore it and he goes back to sleep on his own. Sometimes the babble goes into crying like last night. I just went in and gave him the binky (even though he finds it himself now but he didn't look like he was looking for it). I don't look at him (even though I hear him laugh when he sees me Chat Icon ), I just look above him, grab binky - hand it to him and duck out. Then he goes back to sleep.

Maybe we should give them phones so they can call and babble to each other!Chat Icon

If she is not crying, and she is just happily playing and talking to herself, then I would leave her alone. She will more than likely at some point lie down and go to sleep.

I've been known to toss it in his direction then duck and crawl out of the room Chat Icon
