What time does your 17-20 month old go to sleep?

I was talking to the teacher at my DS's daycare and I told her that we usually put him to bed around 7:30 and she said that it was too early... just wondering when other toddlers his age are going to bed?

Why is that too early? I know a mother with 2 1/2 year olds that go to bed at 6:30. I think it depends on the child. My youngest is 2 years old but my kids have always gone to bed by 8pm. Sometimes a little later for the older ones but my 2 yr old goes up at 7:30 sometimes.

DS is 21 months and goes to sleep between 9 - 10 am. I know that is late but that is when his he falls asleep.

Same as you - 7:30. We've been trying to push it later with the summer coming (we'll probably want to stay out later), but they are so tired by then.

Re: What time does your 17-20 month old go to sleep?

DD goes to bed around 8:30, but that's mainly because DS goes to bed around 8-8:15, and she goes down soon after that. If there is no morning routine, there is no such thing as "early" or "late".... DC don't know if they are going to bed at 7,8, or midnight. They don't know about Daylight Saving Time, or Time Zones. Time is meaningless at that age. As long as they get plenty of sleep, the numbers on the clock are irrelevant.

Btn 7-7:30 but I have been trying to push later, they are so tired by then.

However last night they went to the gate by the stairs, and said "night, night" because they wanted to go to bed. It was 6pm.

By 7:30, DS is in his crib for bedtime.. he usually falls asleep within 10 minutes or so. (I try pushing him later but he just becomes sooo tired and gets up at 6:30am no matter WHAT time he falls asleep at night so I rather him get the most sleep he can !)

DD goes to be between 6:30-7:00. I wish she would stay up a little later, now that the weather is getting nicer, but she says "night night" and runs to her room Chat Icon

Megans bedtime is 10 pm every night.

If she goes to bed a minute earlier, she doesnt sleep through the night and is up very early. It sounds late but she sleeps until 9 30 most mornings and it works for us.

If it works for you, why question it or let anyone else question it? People have asked me many times why I let her go to bed so late..I just answer, it works in our family and shes not even close to going to school yet so its all good.

Thanks everyone! I guess it really is what fits your schedule and life and from what i'm reading it doesn't seem like we're going to be bed too early after all.

Both my girls have gone to bed by 7:30pm most of their lives.
They are now 24 months and 10.5 months.
They wake up at about 7am.
It's what works best for them and usChat Icon

When DS was under a year, he was up that late. It just worked for us. DW and DS had nowhere to go, and I got to spend more time with him after work. We didn't start pushing everyone earlier until the late schedule became inconvenient for everyone.

7-7:30. If it was up to Jack he would ask to be put to bed at 6PM, he usually stands by the gate waiting to be put to bed going "NIGHT NIGHT".

Kevin on the other hand can stay up till 9 if we let him. He just needs less sleep then Jack, but we put them to bed together.

Too early for what Chat Icon Chat Icon
DS is in his crib each night by 8:00 PM. If DH is coming home around 8 (he is usually home by 7), I will try to keep DS up a little later to say night night. We are pretty flexible with his bedtime though. If we are out, for example, we will not cut our night short so DS can go to bed, as long as it is within reason. He is pretty easy going (thankfully!) and doesn't turn into a monster when he is tired. If we have his stroller, he will usually just put his head down and go to sleep Chat Icon
