CIO mommies....
Did you do naps first?
What age did you start? How long did it take to work?
DS currently naps in my bed with me laying with him.
I'm not planning on doing it for another month or so...just trying to prepare.

Re: CIO mommies....
We started CIO a little past 6 months. We did it for going to sleep at night. Never made the transition to naps (which I now regret)
When we first started it took about 3 nights before DS was sleeping without crying. Sometimes you have to go back to it if their schedules get thrown off and do it for another few nights.
We are currently in the middle of trying it again since DS won't go down at night anymore.
But I am a firm believer in CIO... the Ferber method where you check in on them in intervals.

Re: CIO mommies....
I started a modified version at about 4 months. I started just putting her in the crib before she was too tired for her naps. I found that if she was too tired at that point, she cried right away. When I put her in more awake, she rolled around and talked to herself and eventually fell asleep. I never really let her cry hysterically..if she starts whimpering, I let her do that. But once she gets really upset I go in. Honestly, I rarely had to go in, even from the beginning. I'm not sure if that helps you-or if I'm just rambling!!

Re: CIO mommies....
I started CIO when dd was 8 months. She never really had a problem taking naps. I always put her in the crib for naps and she didn't really have a problem with it. Her problem was just sleeping more than an hour at night. Even when she was in the bed with me. So I let her CIO for 4 nights, and it was pretty bad. After the 4th night she slept 8 hours. it was all worth it and sometimes it's the only way.

Re: CIO mommies....
We actually just started doing CIO with naps in the last month b/c Kaydyn stopped wanting to sleep in her crib during the day. The only way she would nap was if you were holding her or in her car seat in the car. So since my DH is home with her now, he started doing CIO during the day. She still cries every time he puts her down for a nap but usually it's for no more than a couple of minutes.
We started doing CIO at night around 7 1/2 months. Kaydyn is currently 9 months 1 week.

Re: CIO mommies....
We did it with night sleep b/c DD was a napper. DD was 6 months when we started. It probably took a week----DD was a tough nut to crack.
I think whenever you decide to do it, it's no fun! Good luck!
ETA: I didn't do a full-fledged CIO but a version of it. I used the methods in Good Night; Sleep Tight by West.

Re: CIO mommies....
We did it for naps first at 5 months- I know, a little before the recommended age but she would NOT nap no matter what. I had no choice.
Then at around 6 months we did for bedtime. It took about 3 nights total and now we have a child who loves going to bed.
