Hang in there! It's hard at first, but then you'll have a great sleeper! Try to remind yourself that you're doing a good thing for her and you're teaching her healthy sleep habits. In the morning when she's well rested she'll be so happy to see you! It's a great thing for a child to be able to easily fall asleep on their own!

Re: CIO right now, the first night!
I'm on my second night of it, but I go in every fifteen minutes. Last night was hour and half- tonight was 45 min. Right now it's 2:30 am. He's been crying for over 30 min. I've been going in every 5-10 min. I just lay him back down, give him binkies, put blanket on, rub his back for about 3 sec and walk out. Just remember you are not alone. So many of us are listening to the same thing while you are. You can do it.

How old is she?
We used to just go in there, give her the pacifier again, rub her and tell her night night and then go back out again.
She is older now though and only wakes for a reason, s we usually take her out now. I think it depends on the age of the child and why they are waking up!

Re: CIO right now, the first night!
I started CIO reluctantly a few weeks ago. DD started waking up every 3 hours to eat and not eating during the day. It was very difficult and I would lie in bed sick to my stomach. It is worth it though. She sleeps well now but still has her nights when she cries for a while. When DD wakes during the night I don't go in to check on her(except looking at the video monitor) unless she cries for over 5 minutes. Then, I go in and check to see if her diaper leaked (which does happen on occassion) and leave. I still can't believe what a difference it has made. Most nights she goes to bed happily and naps better too. Hang in there.

Re: CIO right now, the first night!
We will try again tonight.
My daughter is 9.5 months. She slept with us again last night after I discovered her trying to climb out of her crib screaming hysterically for 30 mins with no signs of letting up. Last night she woke several times again of course! Twice for milk. She wouldn't stop squirming and fussing until I gave it to her!
She is pretty stubborn as well, so I'm not sure yet how I will approach this.
Will try again tonight..
I know this is for her own good and as hard as it is, I just have to be strong.......
Thanks for your support girls!

Re: CIO the second night!
Do you normally cosleep, since you said she went into the bed with you? Are you trying to stop that AND letting her CIO?
If you are trying to get her back into her crib on her own and not cosleep then I would start with napping in her crib to get her used to the crib first before you CIO.

My DD is 12 weeks and started sleeping 5 hours. Is that going to stop as she gets older?

Maybe CIO isn't right for your situation. Do some research, there are lots of other alternatives.

Re: CIO the second night!
Consistency is key - if you let her cry for 30 minutes, but eventually give in, she'll know you WILL give in again and again and again...
Take heart, the second and third nights are usually the worst. If you are consistent, by night four, they understand and adapt.

I agree. I wouldn't be able to let my daughter keep crying knowing it was making her throw up.

Re: CIO the second night!
My DH is SO UNHAPPY and even ANGRY that she is still sleeping with us.
Yes we are co-sleeping. She has probably only slept in her crib when she was like 3 months old, for about a month. It was the hardest month for me b/c I literally had to drag my butt out of bed in the middle of the night to feed/change/soothe her several times a night. I felt like a zombie and I could barely function during the day. I blame it on my DH also b/c he would NOT get up in the middle of the night, not even on weekends when he has off. He doesn't even take turns. What he will do, is stay up all night -- but then that means he'll sleep in ALL day during the daytime and I was not happy about that either.
We spoke to our ped. and she told us that not only do we have to stop co-sleeping, we have to let her CIO also. So, yes it is TWO transitions that she has to go through. Sleeping alone. And falling asleep on her own.
I really can't bear to hear her cry... but everyone's story about their babies co-sleeping with them past the appropiate age scares me. I do not want a 6 year old still sleeping with us! And I want her to be independent!
It is the saddest thing in the world. She can crawl, sit, and stand on her own now... so while she is CIO, she would crawl to the corner of the bed lookig for us - crying her heart out. We do check on her in increments, but I don't think that is working. She would get even more upset. That is what prompted the throwing up last night.
As for the napping situation.. she likes to be HELD! Grandma and grandpa spoiled her at a very young age. If you attempt to put her down, she will wake up and scream! So, there are times when she sleeps in our arms for 2-3 hours. Only during her 5-7pm nap will she stay asleep when we put her down, but that's usally on the adult bed too, and ever so gently. Her crib is at its lowest point right now that there's no way that I can gently put her down. We do not have the knee-push or fold-down rail.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!
