Civil Service Exams
I am considering taking the Case Worker Trainee Exam for the county. If the test is June 7, how long is it usually before you get your results and/or start the job? I am due 9/4 so I am not looking to start until next year, now is the right time to start taking tests, correct?

Re: Civil Service Exams
There is usually a very long lag period between taking the test/getting hired I think you would be ok

Re: Civil Service Exams
It could take several weeks to even find out a score. Then, just because you took the test, does not mean you will ever get a job. You have to apply when they become available. And if someone with a higher score applies than you and do just as well as you on the interview, they get the job over you. Several thousand people can take the exam for one open position. My advice, take as many exams as you qualify for. It's very difficult to get a civil service job.

Re: Civil Service Exams
I agree with pp. My husband took an exam and didn't get the results until about a year later. He got the interview and the job subsequent to that but it took a while. Good luck!

Re: Civil Service Exams
It varies.
DH took a civil service test last June, and he had the results back in mid-August. I took one in December, and have yet to get the results.

Re: Civil Service Exams
It definately takes a long time...I work for the county. I took my exam in Feb 2003 and did not get hired until July 2004. It also depends on the number of positions that are available. The list may be good for a couple of years. It is true too that they must offer the job to the top 3 highest scores on the exam then go down the list. So you should take as many exams that you are eligible for....and good luck!
