Class collection for nursery teacher vs. individual gift

DS has two nursery teachers. I was planning on giving them $40 gift card each plus a small ornament for christmas. I was also planning on giving the director a $50 gift card.

I got an email from one of the mom's in the class (it was sent to all the moms) that she will be collecting money from the parents to present a monetary gift to each teacher and the director. She suggested $15 per teacher and $5 for the director from each kid. She phrased the email saying that it was completely voluntary.

I don't what to do? I feel like I don't want to contribute to the class collection because I wanted to give the teachers more than that. But at the same time, I don't want to be that parent that doesnt participate. I guess one option is to contribute to the class collection and give an individual gift to each teacher, but I am not sure about that either. I am new to this and I don't know why I am overthinking it all.

You're overthinking it!

As a nursery teacher, we got both class gifts and individual gifts. Sometimes a class collection for a parent is easier bc they don't have to worry about buying yet another present. I don't think other parents will frown on you for not participating and the teachers will appreciate your present just as much.

A parent in DS's nursery is taking a collection for both the teacher and the assistant. It was also voluntary.

I gave the $ - $15 for the teacher and $10 for the assitant.

I am also buying them each a $40-$50 gift card to Target or Amazon.

I am doing both. Class collection is $15. There is one main teacher and 4 assistants. Then I will do $25 gift card for main teacher and something small for assistants. Not sure what yet.
