class size
If you have a child(ren) in elementary school and up. What is your child's average class size and what district are you in. Comsewogue - between 22(for an inclusion class-which are smaller) and 28 was her highest year. She has an extremely large grade. The grade behind her has one less teacher and about 17 kids in a class. In Jordan's grade there are 8 sets of twins

Re: class size
There are 13 in DD's pre-K class. 14 in DS's 1st grade class. The school is Pre-K-8th, there is only 1 class per grade (except the 7th grade) and I would say average is 15 kids per grade (of course, the 7th grade has more, hence the two classes). They are in a parish catholic school. I love their small class size.

Re: class size
My 4th grader has 24 in his class. He has the 2nd largest 4th grade class.
My 2nd grader had 19 in her class.
The teacher tells the kids that it's not their fault for being loud when they're talking amongst themselves. She told them it's because they're a lot of kids in the class & if the class size was smaller it wouldn't be so loud. Sounds logical except based on other comments, it's clear there is a hidden agenda behind the sentiment.

Re: class size
I'm a teacher, but my kids will go to my school district eventually. I can tell you that in second grade we have 20-22 per class in my building, but another building has 24-26 per class in the same grade. Generally, they have kept the classes below 25 and opened an additional section if it goes higher, but who knows for next year. The private school my girls are in now has very low numbers in a few grades...I honestly believe the numbers are too small and I wouldn't be comfortable sending her there if her class size were to be under 14-16 kids

Re: class size
My kindergartner has 25 in his class.
My second grader has 19.
I teach 2nd grade in an adjacent district and I have 23 in my class.
I just looked at my own first grade class picture. There were 35 kids in my class so I guess I better not complain!

Re: class size
DD is in K, she has 22, the afternoon session has 24.
Our school only has 300 kids (K-5), so some of the upper grades have 3 sections of less than 18.

Re: class size
I believe Genevieve has around 22-24 kids in her class.
I *think* there are 10-12 kindergarten classes?
We're in Rocky Point.

Re: class size
We are in CT and my kids are not in elementary school yet...but I have friends whose children are and the average is between 18-21 children per class in K-4th grade. Once they hit 5th grade they go to the intermediate school so the classes may get bigger there.
