Classroom Parties
Is there anything that you do to make a classroom party easier? (and neater?) My classes just celebrated La Chandeleur today (crêpe day) and my classroom was grossing me out after. The period goes by so quick (40 minutes) that in a flash the bell rings and they're on their way and I'm left w/sticky desks!

Re: Classroom Parties
My class threw a party for me today since I'm starting my maternity leave, and I ended up doing a lot of the cleanup!
Today was pretty much a surprise, but I was so aggravated about the mess that I decided to do this next time, which may help you: I always make a list of needed items and the kids sign up for what they will bring: plates, soda, etc. Next time, I am going to have 7-8 kids sign up to be the clean up committee, and they won't have to bring anything, but they will have to be in charge of cleaning. Also, there are always a few kids who volunteer to bring stuff and show up empty handed, so those kids will do clean up too.
I don't know if it will work, but the whole cleanup thing is always such a hassle.

Re: Classroom Parties
I was absent on Thursday and there were sprinkles all over the room from a B-day party. I ALWAYS make sure I have the kids clean up right after or as a Do Now the next day...Baby wipes. They clean their desks, chairs, floors, they love using baby wipes and the desks look great after parties or glue projects.

I love the baby wipes idea! That way each kid HAS to clean their desk at the end of the period!

Re: Classroom Parties
First of all, I teach 1st graders, so it's easier to get them to do this. They get napkins to cover their desks. They are not allowed to leave their seats until they are called up to toss their garbage and then, each child gets a wipe and boom, no mess. They are so good, they know to squeeze juice boxes in the sink, then toss.
