Climbing out of crib and going into parents room...
So my SIL calls and tells me that her DD was crying and screaming(never been a good sleeper, always wants in their bed etc) but they were not giving in so they could break this habit. Next minute the door to their room slowly opens and out comes my niece. So she has learned to climb out of her crib.
My SIL had a bunch of question and since we are headed there ourselves soon, I thought I would ask here.
Does she now take the rail off so her DD doesn't hurt herself trying to climb out? ( they have a convertible crib) How do they stop the behavior? Walk her back to her room and keep putting her in bed? Lock their bedroom door? We are both clueless here- any advice? TIA!

Re: Climbing out of crib and going into parents room...
Time for either a crib tent or a conversion into a big girl bed My DD started this and once they master it they can get out in 2 seconds flat. We got DD her twin bed after a week of walking back to her crib and putting her back in. We put a gate on DD's doorway so she had no choice but to climb up in and go back to bed. This is where a video monitor is priceless! Tell them it will get worse before it gets better for a bit

Re: Climbing out of crib and going into parents room...
How old is the she? I would convert the crib to a day bed and really make a big deal out of it for the child. Really go over the top with the idea of a big girl bed. Maybe even get something special for her to sleep with.
Can she turn a door knob? Do they have a video monitor? If she can open doors, I would get one of those locks for the child's door knob. The video monitor is a good backup.

Re: Climbing out of crib and going into parents room...
Bella has learned how to climb out of her crib recently. In fact this morning she woke my DH up by tapping him on the shoulder. We are planning to convert her crib into a toddler bed. As for the getting up in the middle of the night, if it were me I would just put keep putting her back in bed.

Thanks for all the suggestions~! Great ideas- I will pass them on and hopefully, not have to use them later myself!

Re: Climbing out of crib and going into parents room...
Friends of mine IRL have 3 year old twin girls. When their girls started to climb out of their cribs, they purchased the toddler railing for the crib. They also got a baby saftey gate that fit inside the door frame. They removed the actual door to put it in the door frame. This way the girls could get out of bed safely, but were in their room. They said that often times they would find the girls asleep either in each other's beds or on the floor. They also had a video monitor and could see when they were out of bed. At the begining, they would put the girls back into bed, however, they gave in and eventually let them tire themselves out.

take the rail off, super child proof the room, and put one of those door knob covers on the room so she can't get out and wander.

Re: Climbing out of crib and going into parents room...
totally depends on the age of the child. we will not take DD out of her crib until 2 1/2 so we got the crib tent but never ended up using it because she stopped climbing out after the first two times.
