clingy newborn during day?
has anyone else experienced this???
DS is just shy of 3 weeks old. Just this week he has began a phase where we can't put him down during the day...come nightime, he goes down at 9:30 & does 3-4 hour clips until 6:30
we are seeing the ped. today & i plan on asking...

You can't put him down b/c he cries? Have you tried the swing, bouncer or swaddling him for naps? This helped me with DD.

yup, we put him down & he screams bloody murder...he hates being swaddled...the bouncer works for at most 15 minutes...before monday,we could put him down anywhere & he would sleep 3 hours during the day.

yup, ds was like that. i got a baby bjorn so i could clean & cook while holding him. now he's 3 mos and still wont nap unless he's on me.
i'm sure there's no problem--he's just getting used to life and needs to feel secure.

Many newborns protest the swaddle but give in after a minute or two and sleep very soundly. I would try again, wrap him very tight, using a Swaddle Me or Miracle Blanket and see if he will take a pacifier. I also highly recommend buying or taking out of the library: The Happiest Baby on the Block by Dr. Harvey Karp DVD. I promise you it will help. There is also a book, but the DVD is alot faster and better to use since there are visuals. Also, if you have one, try the swing. DD would sleep in there all the time! HTH!!
