Closing Date question
I know in the contract it states a closing date, but my question is if all paperwork is done, how far in advance can the Lawyers set up a firm closing date?
We are looking and have been discussing to close the first week in Oct. but nothing set in stone I would say. So just wanted to get a general idea of when you found out your exact closing date?

We found out less than a week before (we found out on a Monday we'd be closing Thursday).
We had all of our paperwork in and the owners were out and we had an on or about date of 3/19. Lawyer ordered the survey for 3/12 and there were some boundary issues so that delayed our closing until 3/29 (the day our rate expired). Luckily we have nice neighbors who were prompt with the paperwork that was required for us to close.

We close Friday and it was scheduled last week. The closing won't be scheduled until after you're clear to close on all accounts.
ETA - and even then, the sellers don't have to agree to close early -- they have within 30 days of the date in the contract.

We learned within a week. We learned the date we'd close on a Friday and that following Monday we learned how much to bring to closing (check amt) and we closed one week later on a Monday.

But we are closing late so everyone was just waiting for us to give the go ahead.

To the OP, I honestly don't remember when we found out our exact closing date. We went into contract early November, the closing date was set for December 1 and we ended up closing December 13. HTH!!
