Closing Question

Everyone I know keeps telling me to bring my checkbook to the closing. What will I be making personal checks out for that's not already in the closing costs? How much should I have in there for this purpose?

Re: Closing Question

We had to write a check out for $400 something. It was all the processing fees and some other costs.

Do bring your check book with you because their could be fees you are required to pay at the closing.

Re: Closing Question

We are supposed to have a certified check for the attorney's fees, taxes, etc. Maybe it's in case the final numbers come out different? Chat Icon

Re: Closing Question

we wire transfered the estimated amount into our attorney's escrow account so that we would avoid having to write out an extra check at the closing. the amount that we over gave was given back to us by our attorney at the closing in the form of a check.

Re: Closing Question

We needed a certified check to pay for the remainder of the downpayment. (We found out how much the day before)

We had to write additional checks at the table for a sewer bill that the seller was holding, the oil left in the tank, etc.

Our lawyer rolled his costs into the bank's and then the bank cut a check to my lawyer.

Re: Closing Question

We had to bring a certified check with us - and then if I remember correctly we actually ended up getting some money back. The lawyer sent us a bill after the fact - so we didn't write any other checks there.
