Re: Cm dialated question
Yes, many women begin dilating before labor begins.

Re: Cm dialated question
I was 2 cm dialated for 2 weeks before I went into labor.
3-4 cm dialated for three days before I went into labor.
When I went into labor, I was 6 cm dialated when I got to the hospital.
I was 8cm before I got my epi.

Not really. I was in pain at the hospital and I was only 2cm dialated.

Re: Cm dialated question
i was 3cm dilated and 90% effaced for a week and a half before going into full blown labor. by one hour into labor i was 5cm. i was checked about 30 minutes after getting my epi (3.5 hours into labor) and was 8cm, so i'm assuming i was 7-8cm when i got the epi. they would have given it to me sooner, except they needed to draw a platelet count first and wait for the results.
i'm not gonna lie, i was in significant pain before i got the epi... but if you know you want it, ask to get it as soon as they're willing to give it to you. if it's too soon they'll at least get you ready by drawing the blood.

Re: Cm dialated question
It is not the dilating that makes you in pain, it is whether you are in active labor. You can be 3 cms and having realy bad contractions if you are at the hospital. Don't worry though, it is probably not as bad as you think it will be.

Well, the dilation has very little to do with the pain.
It depends on at what point your actual contractions start.
Some people start them at 2cm.
I was a lucky one and mine didn't start until around 6.
But I swear the whole process wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Re: Cm dialated question
I was about 2-cm. and 100% effaced for 1 1/2 weeks before I went into labor. By the time I was checked at my OB office, I was 4-cm. and didn't know it other than I didn't feel right. No extreme pain or anything. I think everyone is different to be honest. You'll be fine. Good luck!
